What is XFinity Toolbar?

XFinity Toolbar is a browser plugin that provides with you a customized search box, and several other shortcuts, for example, to your email, Facebook or Twitter account. The toolbar also has a weather widget so you can set it to display your local weather as long as it gets an updated feed. The search box allows you to search for whichever keyword you prefer. XFinity Toolbar makes use of Yahoo! or Google customized search engine. This browser extension is not a computer virus, but if you find it too intrusive you can easily remove XFinity Toolbar from your PC.

Where does XFinity Toolbar come from?

XFinity Toolbar can be downloaded at xfinity.comcast.com. We also cannot rule out the possibility of bundled download, when several free software applications are downloaded together from a third party source, but even so, it is highly unlikely that XFinity Toolbar will be installed on your PC behind your back. The toolbar is distributed by Comcast, which is one of the biggest entertainment and information products providers in the US. You can choose NOT to set xfinity.comcast.com as your default search engine or home page - you simply need to be attentive during the installation. If you go through the process negligently, then you might have your home page unwittingly changed to xfinity.comcast.com.

How to remove XFinity Toolbar?

The toolbar itself is not related to malware as it is a legitimate product. Also, the home page is similar to any other news portals such as MSN or Yahoo!. However, if you do not want to have XFinity Toolbar on your browser or PC, you can remove it manually and restore your default browser settings on your own. Follow the instructions below to delete XFinity Toolbar from your computer and then change your browser settings.

Remove XFinity Toolbar from PC

For Windows 8

1. Right-click metro Start GUI.
2. All apps button will appear on the bottom right. Click it.
3. Go to Control Panel and click Uninstall a program.
4. Remove XFinity Toolbar.

For Windows Vista & Windows 7

1. Open Start Menu and click Control Panel.
2. Go to Uninstall a program and remove XFinity Toolbar.

For Windows XP

1. Open Start Menu and go to Control Panel.
2. Select Add or Remove Programs and uninstall XFinity Toolbar.

Restore your browser settings

For Internet Explorer

1. Press Alt+X and select Manage add-ons. Click Search providers on the left.
2. Set as default another search engine and remove XFinity search.
3. Press Alt+X once more and click Internet Options.
4. Remove comcast.net from home page section under General tab.
5. Enter a new home page address and click OK. Restart the browser.

For Mozilla Firefox

1. Click the orange Firefox button and select Options.
2. Delete comcast.net from home page section under General tab.
3. Enter a home page address you prefer and click OK.
4. Click search engine icon on the left of built-in search box (top right corner).
5. Select Manage search engines and remove XFinity search from the list.
6. Click OK and restart your browser.

For Google Chrome

1. Press Alt+F and select Settings.
2. Under On Startup choose Open a page or set of pages.
3. Click Set pages and delete comcast.com. Select a new home page and press OK.
4. Under Search click Manage search engines.
5. Click "Make default" next to another search engine and delete XFinity search.
6. Press Done and restart Google Chrome.
