What is WinClock?
WinClock is advertised as a highly customizable clock that you can put on your desktop. But regardless of how it looks, it does not work as you would expect, so you might want to remove it. Furthermore, it has been set to display commercial advertisements on your desktop, which make this program unreliable.WinClock is remarkably similar to the clock gadget developed by Microsoft, but has a bit more customization options. However, there is really no need for such a clock, because if you use Windows 7 or Vista you can just enable the clock gadget featured on these two operating systems.
Where does WinClock come from?
There are not many applications like WinClock. We suspect that this is a one of a kind release from an unknown software developer that did not even bother to digitally sign its product. The developers have set up a dedicated website for this application at Winclock.net. This website features two standalone installation files of an ad-supported and an ad-free version. The ad-free version is of course paid and it costs $5.99. You can use your debit or credit card to purchase WinClock, but we do not recommend it, since there is something odd and unreliable about its payment system. We have also received information that it is distributed using software bundles, but we have yet to find any cases of this, so we can neither confirm nor deny such rumors.
How does WinClock work?
If you have this program installed, then you will notice that you cannot adjust the time settings. You can only select a certain time zone, but there is a major flaw plaguing WinClock. It shows incorrect time and you cannot do anything about it. So there is no reason to keep it, as it fails to deliver a functional clock. Although it has an extensive list of customization options, but the overall quality is not the greatest. Even when our researchers tested this application, they found that the background could not be changed.
A lot of potentially unwanted applications these days display advertisements. WinClock’s website states that it can display third-party advertisements on the clock itself or on the desktop. So you should not encounter any of them on the browser. However, our analysts did not see any advertisements when they tested WinClock, so it is quite possible that the ad-displaying function is disabled or its server is down. Whatever the case may be, this is not a particularly useful program and we suggest removing it in a timely manner.
How do I remove WinClock?
As you can see, this program is not a very good one. It can display time, but there is no guarantee that it will display it correctly. It would be much easier to just use the built-in Windows clock gadget for Vista and Windows 7. We never recommend using ad-supported software and WinClock is not an exception to this rule. Ads make a program unreliable, so you should remove WinClock just to be on the safe side. Please check out our removal guide if you do not know how to uninstall this application.
