Where does SpeedGuard come from?
It is probably not surprising that the software developer that released SpeedGuard cannot be named, because its website Speedguard.com does not indicate it anywhere. The website features a “Free download” button which thankfully does not work. We do not know how the program is actually distributed, but we speculate that it might be distributed using software bundling. Now, you should be able to uncheck the installation of SpeedGuard while installing legitimate software bundles, but usually, they are made in a confusing manner, so that you would not notice that you also agree to install additional software.
How does SpeedGuard work?
As mentioned, SpeedGuard is supposedly a tool that tests your Internet speed, but in reality it does none of that. It is said that it can measure your download and upload speed, and will help you troubleshoot the issues associated with Internet speed. Once again all of these stated promises are false. This particular program is actually identical to Surf Speed Monitor, PerformApp, and Netspeed Ads, which also only display commercial content and do not feature the promised functions.
The application is compatible with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox, which is bad news, because it will show numerous advertisements on a lot of webpages that you visit. Typically, it will display pop-ups, coupons, price comparisons, in-line texts, and so on, since the application is sponsored by third parties. The application’s Terms and Conditions state that you will be subjected to content, such as data files, written text, computer software, and so on. However, some computer software may be unreliable and even malicious. In addition to that, SpeedGuard will collect and share your web usage information with third parties. We do not support such shady practices, so we suggest that you remove this application.
How do I remove SpeedGuard?
All in all, SpeedGuard is not the application that its advertisement campaign claims it to be. We think that the proclaimed functionality does not actually work. The program only serves to display commercial advertisements that can redirect you to unreliable websites, and collects information that is shared with third parties, which is unacceptable in our opinion.
