What is Runbooster?
Runbooster is a new malware infection that could infect your computer without your knowledge and thus put your virtual security at potential risk. Our malware specialists at anti-spyware-101.com say that this is a Trojan program that can collect information about you, use your computer’s resources as well as start showing potentially harmful third-party advertisements. It is possible that you would not normally consider commercials dangerous or risky, but we beg to differ. When your system is infected with such a malware program, it is possible that you click on corrupt ads and thus let more malware threats onto your PC or open malicious webpages on new tabs. When you notice this Trojan on your computer, it could also mean that other malicious programs have entered your system with it. Obviously, this could make your PC even more vulnerable to cyber attacks. If you want to protect your computer, we recommend that you remove Runbooster right now. For the details, please continue reading our article.
Where does Runbooster come from?
Our research shows that this program cannot be downloaded from official sources; at least, our specialists have not found any. This clearly means that this Trojan only spreads via questionable methods, such as freeware bundles. Before you install a malicious software package, you usually need to click on questionable third-party content first. This can happen when you land on a shady website packed with advertising, such as torrent, shareware, and gaming sites, or when your computer is infected with adware.
You may never visit suspicious websites knowingly; however, it is still possible that you get redirected to one if you click on the wrong link, for example, after a web search. However, landing on an unfamiliar website always holds certain risks. You may not know, for instance, where you cannot click if you do not want to infect your computer or open further malicious pages. These pages can host all kinds of third-party ads, including banner and pop-up ads, fake system notifications, and fake buttons as well, not to mention the fact that the downloader you are about to download could also be packed with malware as a rule for suspicious file-sharing sites.
Our experience also shows that before you get infected with this Trojan, there could already be other malware threats on board, such as adware programs and browser hijackers that can display similarly unreliable ads and links on your screen. Hopefully, you understand now why it is so important that you scan your system with a reliable malware scanner after you delete Runbooster.
How does Runbooster work?
This Trojan may lay low for a while as most of Trojans would do; this is its essence, i.e., not to be noticed so that it can work in the background without any problem. Therefore, you may not even realize that this malware infection is on board for some time. In the meanwhile, though, this Trojan program may collect important information about you, which, for example, can be used to target you later on with customized commercial ads. However, these ads would simply serve as bait. But it is possible that this infection also collects other bits of sensitive information about you and shares these with third parties. In addition to that, this Trojan can also operate as a normal adware program and flood your computer screen with potentially risky third-party ads. This can make your browser experience quite a nightmare, but it is obviously not the biggest problem.
Whenever you are introduced to third-party ads, there is a chance that you click on one that comes from an unreliable third party, such as a cyber criminal. Clicking on such an ad could launch new browser windows with fake or malicious content, or you can directly download fake updaters and malware infections. We do not think that you want to become a victim of an online scam and lose money from your bank accounts or give up your precious personally identifiable information to cyber crooks. This is why we suggest that you take our word for it and remove Runbooster ASAP.
