If it suddenly becomes impossible to access almost all files (e.g. pictures, documents, videos, and more) and they have a Unicode symbol, Zlocker Ransomware must have infiltrated your computer. It is not very easy to say how this threat enters computers because it has not become a prevalent infection yet; however, we are sure you have not given it permission to enter your computer. Ransomware infections are one of those threats that try to infiltrate computers unnoticed; however, they do not perform their activities in the background once they successfully enter systems. As a consequence, users soon find out about the entrance of the ransomware infection. The entrance of Zlocker Ransomware does not go unnoticed too because it encrypts victims’ files right away and, additionally, drops a ransom note in a .txt format. It is very likely that other distribution methods are used to spread it too, for example, Zlocker Ransomware might be spread disguised as some kind of useful program. No matter what the story behind its entrance is in your case, you must still erase this threat from your computer as soon as possible. What does Zlocker Ransomware do?
At the time of the analysis, Zlocker Ransomware encrypted only several folders on our test machine; however, it might not be so mild in your situation. It seems that it can encrypt all kinds of files, including those that are the most valuable ones, e.g. pictures, documents, movies, etc., which suggests that victims might lose almost all their files. Luckily, Zlocker Ransomware does not try to ruin the operating system on compromised machines, so it will not touch any files in the Windows OS directory. Once files become locked, it also drops a ransom note ВАШИ ФАЙЛЫ ЗАШИФРОВАНЫ.txt. It contains a ransom note in Russian, which shows that Zlocker Ransomware targets Russian-speaking users. As expected, this threat also demands money from users. You will be told that paying 5000 RUB to crooks is the only way to decrypt files, but you should definitely not do that. There are many cases when cyber criminals take users’ money but do not give them the promised decryption tool. Do not be one of those users who support cyber criminals.
