What is Xxlecxx?
While there are thousands of highly dangerous ransomware infections, Xxlecxx is not one of them. Although it can paralyze your system temporarily, and it can demand a ransom fee, it is not a real threat because, for one, it does not encrypt files, and, secondly, it can be disabled with a tap of a few buttons. Anti-Spyware-101.com malware analysts warn that more and more infections like this one emerge, some of which include DeadSec-Crypto Ransomware, Blooper Ransomware, and Elmers Glue Locker Ransomware. Unfortunately, they often do not look that much different than real ransomware infections that truly can encrypt files. In any case, whether your system is corrupted by a real encryptor or just a fake one, paying a ransom is never a good idea. The criminals behind these threats cannot be held accountable, and so they usually take the money and disappear without keeping their end of the deal. The good news is that your files are not at risk in this situation, and you can delete Xxlecxx without having to worry about the fate of your photos, documents, and other personal files.
How does Xxlecxx work?
Xxlecxx could not work if it were not active on the targeted operating system, and so the first task for the creator of this threat is to spread it. According to the information we have gathered while researching this threat, it appears that it can be spread via spam emails. These emails could have convincing messages, and they could be sent from addresses that mimic well-known email addresses associated with delivery companies, banks, airlines, etc. Furthermore, the launcher of the threat could be concealed as a regular file, for example, a Microsoft Word document. As soon as the file is executed, the screen is locked using a screen-size notification in purple background. According to the notification, your files are encrypted by the Xxlecxx Ransomware, and a ransom of 150 USD must be paid. As there is no obvious way for closing the misleading notification, some users might be tricked into clicking the “What to Do” button and following the payment instructions. Needless to say, that is a terrible idea because the files are not encrypted, and the only thing you need to focus on is the removal of the threat.
Although Xxlecxx does not cause real damage, its entrance is very important. If this piece of malware has managed to slither into your operating system, there is no doubt that it is not protected adequately. Unfortunately, that means that all kinds of malicious threats might have invaded it already. While the annoying screen-locker is very noticeable – in fact, you cannot evade it – there are plenty of threats that are much more clandestine and that rely on their ability to conceal and hide. Needless to say, such threats are extremely dangerous because they can perform malicious activities without your notice. We hope that this kind of malware does not exist, but only a legitimate malware scanner can help you find out. We suggest using this tool as soon as possible. Once you eliminate the threats that have taken over your operating system, you need to take care of your system’s protection; otherwise, you might need to remove other malicious infections sooner or later.
