What is Vertech?
Vertech is a newly found adware-type application that is set to subject you to intrusive and unwelcome commercial advertisements. We recommend that you remove this browser extension because its ads are not only annoying but can also be dangerous as well. Indeed, there is no telling what undesirable consequences may arise as a result of keeping this application. Of course, it cannot get your computer infected with malware independently. It needs your input. This adware can only jeopardize your computer’s security if you click its advertisements. It might redirect you to spam websites or websites that feature downloads of malicious software. However, for the most part, its presented content is safe, but that may not always be the case.
Where does Vertech come from?
While testing this adware, our researchers found that it had been digitally signed by someone by the name of Robert Verma. Unfortunately, our attempts to get more information about this person did not produce any results. Therefore, it might be that this program was created by an unknown software developer, or the name is made up to make this extension look legitimate. Nevertheless, Microsoft Internet Explorer says that the publisher is unverified. So right from the beginning we see that Vertech comes from an unknown developer which is not a good trait.
As far as its dissemination methods go, our security analysts have found that it is being bundled via unofficial installers and freeware bundles. These are the most commonly used methods because when you install a software bundle, you can install additional, hidden software accidentally if you did not opt for custom settings and did not uncheck the installation of additional software. Some software bundles and installers do not give you the opportunity to opt-out at all and install Vertech without your knowledge or consent. We must call this distribution method what it is and do not have a shadow of a doubt that it is dishonest and deceptive. The installers used to distribute it tend to hide it from you, so that you would install it unintentionally.
How does Vertech work?
The research has also revealed that Vertech disables the check for unsigned add-ons on Internet Explorer by modifying the policy found in Windows Registry. Thus, this adware can enter your computer silently. If it did not make these changes, then you would get a notification about a program trying to install on your browser. In addition to Internet Explorer, this adware also works on Mozilla Firefox and testing has shown that it is not supported by Google Chrome which is excellent news indeed.
At any rate, when this adware finds a way on your PC, then it drops its files to several locations and creates several registry keys that you have to delete to make your computer secure again. After everything is in place, it connects to its server and starts rendering commercial advertisements. Its advertisements can come in a variety of forms, but most of them are presented as pop-ups that appear when you browse the web, particularly when you click a link that redirects to another page. The ads could also come as banners and coupons, but our analysts did not see such ads when they tested it. Regardless, the pop-ups alone are enough to obstruct your browsing experience as they are quite intrusive and annoying. Our biggest concern, however, is the fact that it may promote shady content that that could include scam websites and malware downloads. Given this program’s unknown origins, the legitimacy of its promotions cannot be verified, so we suggest removing this program since rendering advertisements are all it can do anyway.
