What is Ultra Tab?
Has your search engine changed recently? Maybe there’s something called Ultra Tab on your browser? Did you add it there yourself? If not, you’ve been taken by surprise by a potentially unwanted program. Don’t panic; there is nothing malicious about it. It’s only there to make a living for its developers, and if you don’t want it, you can remove Ultra Tab without too much difficulty. Continue reading this entry to find out more about the application. If you feel that you don’t need it, after all, you can use the removal guidelines at the bottom to delete the app from your browser.
Where does Ultra Tab come from?
This application is a Chrome extension that can be directly downloaded from two sources: ultra-tab.com and the Chrome Web Store. The official website offers a sleek layout that provides some information on the application. It says that Ultra Tab was built by Orangeshark. This platform supposedly “increases the efficiency and productivity of ad-operations through automation and machine learning.” Also, in the description of the application, it says that Ultra Tab takes “your search results seriously, and our system is designed to get you there quickly and to have you find only the very best, most helpful information.”
So, it all sounds nice, but if you haven’t visited the official distribution sources, and yet, Ultra Tab is there on your browser, you must have encountered other freeware distribution points. For instance, it’s quite possible that Ultra Tab gets distributed through pop-ups and redirects, too. This calls for caution when you browse websites that promote third-party content. The point is to remain on course and refrain from clicking anywhere on a pop-up that hogs your screen. If you see a notification there too, it’s best to close the pop-up by clicking the X button rather than clicking on the notification.
What does Ultra Tab do?
We’ve already discussed some of the extension’s functions above, but it’s also important to note that when you add Ultra Tab to your browser, the app modifies your new tab settings, and it also sets ultra-search1com as your default search provider. It allows the application to monitor your search queries, and it might log that to, later on, generate custom commercial content.
It sure may provide you with the visuals that give you “stylish browsing without compromising on your search experience.” But take note that the ultra-search1.com isn’t necessarily an original search provider. If you run a search query through the page, you will see that you get redirected to Yahoo! Search. What’s more, the longer Ultra Tab remains on your browser, the more customized some of the content will become. There’s nothing wrong or malicious about that, but we always have to recognize the potential threat behind third-party content.
Ultra Tab and other similar applications cannot guarantee that the third-party content you reach through them will be safe. While the extension itself doesn’t infect you with anything or has no intention to compromise your system’s security, if you click an outgoing link that was provided by the app, and that link happens to lead to a dangerous website, you will have no one else but yourself to blame for it.
Needless to say, malware infection is extreme that doesn’t occur too often. Also, this kind of worst-case scenario is often associated with actual malware distribution campaigns and phishing attacks, not potentially unwanted programs. Therefore, there’s no need to panic, but you should consider all the potential outcomes when you deliberate whether you want to keep Ultra Tab on-board or not. If you don’t want it, just scroll down for the removal instructions.
How do I remove Ultra Tab?
Since Ultra Tab is a browser extension, you can remove it via the Extensions menu. After that, you will have to restore your default search engine settings. If you don’t want to go through all these steps, you can just reset your browser’s settings to default. That would remove Ultra Tab, its tracking cookies, and all the other unwanted applications that you might have there. If that’s not something you want to do as well, get yourself a licensed antispyware application that will take care of it automatically.
