What is Track Net Speed?
Track Net Speed promises to help Google Chrome users test internet speed and play online games using the easy-access links presented via its interface. The extension is meant to quickly estimate download/upload/ping speeds, reveal the country with the fastest internet speed, give tips on how to increase connection speeds, and give access to “fun& exciting games.” The extension also comes with an integrated search tool that is meant to be customized by the PUP – potentially unwanted program. According to our researchers, the suspicious extension is not the most useful tool, and if you have installed it already, you should understand why. Of course, some users might find the limited utility of the extension satisfactory, in which case, removing Track Net Speed might not be the priority. If you want to delete this PUP, we have tips and a guide that, hopefully, will help you get through the process quickly. If you are not sure why you should even be concerned, continue reading.
How does Track Net Speed work?
Although our Anti-Spyware-101.com researchers were not familiar with Track Net Speed before it was recently tested in our internal lab, it would not be fair to treat it as a unique extension. It was created by Innover Group, and it is extremely similar to Converter Suite, Ezy Photo Tab, and Shield My Searches extensions, all of which we delete as potentially unwanted programs as well. All of them have unique downloaders. Track Net Speed can be found at tracknetspeed.com and its installer is found at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/track-net-speed/lllgphednmbcmedipjmodlmffbipmflm. All of these extensions can also be distributed by software bundles, which means that they could come together with other questionable pieces of software. If you suspect that unreliable pieces could have been installed along with the PUP, we recommend installing a trusted malware scanner to help you inspect your operating system. All Innover extensions employ cookies to track user-related information, and they are specifically interested in browsing history and interaction with content that is shown to them online. In some cases, this content can include advertisements.
All Innover extensions change the New Tab page when they are installed. Track Net Speed changes the New Tab page to introduce you to easy-access links to third-party websites, an internet speed tester, and also a search engine. Third-party websites can be accessed via any browser, and you can bookmark them for easy access. The Internet speed tester is not superior to other online testers, and we also recommend using the tool offered by your Internet provider. Most likely, one exists on the provider’s official website. As for the search engine, trusting it is tricky. First and foremost, do not expect Track Net Speed to provide you with an original search service. Instead, it redirects to Yahoo Search. Although the produced results were not modified at the time of research, keep in mind that the PUP claims to offer a custom web search tool. Also, note that you can use Yahoo Search without having to install any extension. Overall, as you can see, the extension is not that useful, and that is why we classify it as a PUP. Now, you have to decide whether you want to remove it or not.
