TopSportsSearch

What is TopSportsSearch?

TopSportsSearch is an extension that has nothing to do with sports. It is also not really a search tool. If you think that only the name of this extension is misleading, we have to disappoint you. The entire extension is a useless piece of junk, and it cannot offer you anything beneficial. Of course, it can redirect your searches to Yahoo Search, but that is not the service you might think it is. The results you are shown are completely unreliable because they are supposed to promote the links of the PUP’s partners. What is wrong with that? Well, first of all, did you install the extension so that it could “optimize” the results by showing advertisements? Secondly, the partners are completely mysterious, and because we do not know much about them, we do not believe that trusting them is a good idea. Hopefully, you have not let the PUP in yet, but if you have, we want to show you how to delete TopSportsSearch.test

How does TopSportsSearch work?

Did you know that TopSportsSearch is a clone of GlobalPDFConverterSearch, BestConverterSearch, GoIncognitoSearch, GlobalSearchConverter, and tons of other extensions alike? The names might suggest that they offer different services, but that is not the case. They all are equally as useless, and it seems that their creator is not even trying to make them seem unique. In most cases, the Chrome Web Store is used to introduce the installers of these PUPs, and the description is always the same. The Privacy Policy link always opens the same document too. According to it, the PUP can record personally identifiable data and share it with partners. It also can showcase advertisements. So, did you install the PUP from chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/topsportssearch/pjebjmcjobhnffdkihegakcgonokiham? If you did not, you could have found its installer on some other platform, or perhaps even bundled with other threats. In any case, once installed, TopSportsSearch always acts the same.

The most important task for TopSportsSearch is to change the default search provider on Google Chrome, and it does that using feed.topsportssearch.com. How is that manifested? When you enter keywords into the browser’s address bar, your searches are redirected via feed.topsportssearch.com to Yahoo Search (search.yahoo.com). This is why we claim that the PUP does not offer searches at all. Instead, it only redirects. Sadly, the results you are shown are modified, and that might not be evident right away. This puts you at risk of interacting with links that belong to unknown parties. Of course, it is possible that the PUP could be working with harmless parties, but it could also be serving schemers and malvertisers. If you do not want to put yourself into the hands of malicious parties, we suggest that you only use trusted services, search tools, and extensions. Clearly, TopSportsSearch is not one of them.
