Surfvox

What is Surfvox?

Surfvox is a common browser hijacker that can cause frequent ad supported search results, with potentially unwanted advertisement supported links. Browser hijackers are created for a particular purpose – enhancing online traffic of certain websites. Therefore, the more users are infected; the more traffic is generated, the more money is made by the creators of these malicious applications, and that is why browser hijackers are a very common problem in the cyber world.test

To avoid being exploited by suspicious people behind these scams you must remove Surfvox as soon as possible. Removal will also stop the malicious and intrusive activity that is caused by the hijacker. A detailed guide on how to remove Surfvox and further information on how to avoid this infection is provided in the article.

How does Surfvox work?

Surfvox like many other hijackers alters users default home page and search engine. All the popular browsers are affected by this malicious infection; thus, switching your default web browser will not help. Furthermore, if you are using multiple browsers, you will have to remove Surfvox from every single one of them. Although Surfvox search tool is based on custom made Google search engine, it is still very likely that your search results will be full of sponsored advertisement links on the top of the list. These sponsored links to the third-party websites could turn out to be malicious, so we do not recommend using the Surfvox search tool at all.

Unfortunately, Surfvox does not contain Privacy Policy or Terms and Agreement documents within their official website. Therefore, the user is not entirely informed about how the application could work and what kind of tasks it may perform behind your back. Often browser hijackers have a bunch of third-party associates, but because there is no further information about that you can never know who they are and what they do. If you continue to use Surfvox your personal data and operating system could be in great danger that is why our research team at anti-spyware-101 highly advises you to remove this hijacker right away.

Where does Surfvox come from?

Torrent downloads are the main way how Surfvox hijacker is distributed. Game of Thrones S04E09 HDTV x264-KILLERS[ettv] is one of these torrent files that carries an .exe file of the hijacker. The video file downloaded using this torrent file is broken. It is a manipulation tactic used to lure the user to install the .exe file that came along. These .exe files can have different names, for instance, communitycodecs.exe, or DivX Player.exe and are injected with malicious code that silently installs Surfvox browser hijacker. You should be extra cautious while downloading anything from dubious websites. A professional antimalware tool could prevent this from happening as it can quickly identify and remove corrupted files.

How to remove Surfvox?

Removal of Surfvox is a bothersome process to say the least. Firstly, Surfvox does not include an uninstaller within the Control Panel. Secondly, only restoring your browser settings will not do the trick, because this malicious application inserts quite a few new registry entries. One of these entries allows Surfvox to hijack browsers at each Windows startup. Editing the Windows Registry is a task that should only be performed by advanced users who have prior knowledge about it. Thus, we highly recommend that as soon as you restore your browser settings you need to remove this malicious application completely by using a licensed malware detection and removal tool.
