What is StreamSearchs?
StreamSearchs is a potentially unwanted program that is actually a Chrome browser extension. This application comes from a group of browser extensions that are supposed to improve your browsing experience. Thus, there is nothing malicious about this program, but we have to keep in mind that this application might also be added to the Chrome browser accidentally, and if you don’t want to deal with the app, you need to be careful whenever you browse the web so you could avoid such programs. At the same time, it’s probably for the best to remove StreamSearchs right now.
Where does StreamSearchs come from?
As mentioned, StreamSearchs comes from a big group of similar extension. Based on the layout of the main portal, this application should be similar to TheConverterSerch, OpenSub search, SearchTheConverter, and a bunch of other extensions that were released by the same developer.
The fact that all of these extensions are so similar shows that the developers do not invest much in perfecting every single app. They’re more interested in releasing as many versions as possible, so that more users could add StreamSearchs (and others apps) to their browsers.
We would like to point out that StreamSearchs does not employ dark distribution tactics, in a sense that it does not trick users into downloading the application. However, aside from the official website and the Chrome Web Store, there are many other ways for this app to reach you. For instance, StreamSearchs might employ file-sharing websites and pages that provide free content in exchange for showing all sorts of advertisements. These advertisements may launch pop-up windows that suggest adding StreamSearchs to their browsers. Users, who are not attentive enough, could trigger the installation just by clicking anywhere on the notification box. Therefore, users who end up with this extension have no one but themselves to blame for dealing with it. Luckily, we can remove StreamSearchs without too much difficulty.
What does StreamSearchs do?
This extension says that it can let you “browse the web and get easy access to search, images, videos and news.” Also, when you add this app to your browser, it will change your default search provider to feed.streamsearchs.com, and then it starts regularly reading your browsing history. In a sense, if you are not aware of this application or how it enters your computer, you might think that you were attacked by a browser hijacker, but clearly that’s not the case.
The reason StreamSearchs reads your browsing history is third-party ads. The extension is available for free, so it needs to make a living somehow. And it does that by promoting third-party content. The ads that StreamSearchs might display are usually customized based on your likes and preferences to increase the chances of interaction. To figure out your likes and preferences, StreamSearchs needs to log your browsing history. Please note that the collection of your web browsing data happens with your permission, and you can’t really say that the app does that behind your back.
On the other hand, the third-party content that StreamSearchs may expose you to COULD be suspicious. The extension may try to say that it’s a good tool that can improve your browsing experience, but it has no say in the third-party content that reaches you through its shortcuts and redirects. If a malevolent party decides to exploit StreamSearchs to promote their corrupt content, the extension would not be able to stop it. And if you CLICK on that content, you could be exposed to various online scams. Of course, malware infection is the worst-case and a rather unlikely scenario, but you should take all the risks into account.
How do I remove StreamSearchs?
Let’s sum up: StreamSearchs is not a malicious infection, but if you didn’t want to have this extension, you should not keep it. You can remove the app through the extensions’ menu, but we would strongly recommend resetting your browser settings to default.
When you are done with that, scan your PC with the SpyHunter free scanner to determine whether your system is absolutely safe. If you find more potential threats, remove them at once, and then do everything in your power to protect your computer and your personal information from malicious exploitation.
