What is StreamSearchClub?
You should not look at StreamSearchClub as a beneficial extension that can provide you with beneficial services. According to our research team, this is a PUP – potentially unwanted program – and if you interact with it, you are most likely to end up facing unreliable search results. And it does not even matter that the PUP can use Yahoo Search. The results are unreliable, and we explain in detail why that is so further in this report. The extension was tested in our Anti-Spyware-101.com internal lab, and we can provide you with important information about it. We also can answer your questions about it, and if you have any, please do not hesitate to add them to the comments section. Of course, we hope that we can shed light on potentially unwanted programs and why removing them is recommended. In this report, we show how to delete StreamSearchClub as well.
How does StreamSearchClub work?
StreamSearchClub is identical to LiveSportSearch, VideosSearches, ConverterSearchTool, and other similar extensions. They are introduced as search tools, but the introduced search service is the one we are most concerned about. Whether you downloaded the PUP from get.streamsearchclub.com, the Chrome Web Store (chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/streamsearchclub/cmnnbnbmpldiihnaijknccdemnniolnp), or some random file-sharing website, it always hijacks the default search provider. After installation, you should find feed.streamsearchclub.com set as the default provider, and that is a huge problem. Why? First of all, this is not a real search tool. Instead, it is a redirector, and that means that StreamSearchClub is a useless tool. Second, the redirector moves you to search.yahoo.com, and if you are familiar with Yahoo Search, you might assume that the presented results can be trusted. Well, the results cannot be trusted because, third, they are modified. What does that mean? According to our research team, the PUP – just like its clones – can add links to the normal results to conceal them and trick you into clicking them.
What would happen if you clicked on the links injected by StreamSearchClub? You could be routed to unreliable websites. You could be routed to websites selling overpriced or even fictitious products and services. You could be routed to sites set up to expose you to fake prize giveaways and surveys. All kinds of things could happen, and we are afraid that a lot of them could be bad. Of course, we do not claim that all links injected by StreamSearchClub would route to malicious websites. That all depends on the parties and advertisers working with the creator of the extension, and, well, we are not informed about them. We are, however, informed that the PUP can track and share information about you, and that means that you might be putting your security on the line for an extension that does not even offer useful services. It goes without saying that we recommend removing the extension, and we have a few options to discuss.
How to delete StreamSearchClub
PUPs are classified as threats, and they can be identified and removed by anti-malware software. It is unlikely that you have this kind of software installed on your operating system at this time, and if that is the case, we strongly recommend that you take care of your system as soon as possible. The right anti-malware software will automatically remove StreamSearchClub as well as any other threats that might have slithered in along with it, before it, or perhaps via the advertisements/links introduced by it. If you are not yet sure if you want to secure your operating system, you might choose to delete the PUP manually. Google Chrome users can follow the instructions below, and if they do, they should have StreamSearchClub deleted in no time. These instructions also demonstrate how to clear browsing data, which you need to do if you want to get rid of data-tracking cookies that the PUP and its partners could have injected.
