Storimbo is an application that is supposed to “elevate your web experience.” Judging from its homepage at storimbo.net, the program is a browser extension that is developed to improve online shopping practice. Where does Storimbo come from?
Although Storimbo has an official homepage, clicking the green download button will get you nowhere. The direct download link is dead, and it is impossible to download Storimbo at the main website.
This adware application employs a rather common distribution method known as bundled downloads. The installer file for Storimbo gets bundled with some other freeware application that is available for download at a third-party file sharing websites. Users who download the said freeware app usually have no idea they download Storimbo as well. What does Storimbo do?
Storimbo functions as a browser extension. It means that upon the installation it adds extensions to Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers. The official website says that Storimbo is supposed to be compatible with Google Chrome as well, but the newest Chrome versions successfully block this extension.
On the other hand, if you use Google Chrome as your default browser, it is no reason to breathe a sigh of relief because Storimbo can STILL get installed on your computer. The adware app will start collecting data on your web browsing history and, sooner rather than later, it will bombard you with commercial ads on various discount and coupon offers.
Although it might seem that Storimbo really tries to help you save money on your holiday purchases, it is not the case. Storimbo does not care how you spend money. It only wants you to click the ads so it would generate profit via pay-per-click system.
