SoLucky

What is SoLucky?

If you find that your web searches go faster and with the first result loading immediately while using your Google Chrome browser, you may have SoLucky, a questionable browser extension, on your system. Our malware specialists tested this application and concluded that it is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) because of certain traits it may show. For example, this PUP may collect information about you and even share it with third parties. You might also be exposed to potentially unreliable third-party advertisements while having this tool active in your affected browser. What’s more, this extension might come on board in a free software bundle that could contain malicious software installers as well. All in all, we consider this PUP undesirable on your system. Although you have the last say in this, we recommend that you remove SoLucky from your computer.testtesttest

Where does SoLucky come from?

As we have mentioned, this PUP might show up on your system without your knowledge when you install a bundle and do not pay too much attention to what exactly you are installing in addition to your target software. This is how a lot of unsuspecting computer users actually infect their system with all kinds of PUPs and malicious programs as well. Third-party installers should not be trusted as they can pack infections alongside authentic or authentic-looking free software. These bundles may reveal the full content on the pages of the installation wizard or in the license agreement, but it is also possible that you can only see this information if you select the custom option instead of the quick or recommended option. You can download such questionable bundles when you use shady torrent or shareware pages for downloading free files, when you are viewing suspicious websites filled with unsafe third-party ads and you engage with them, or when your system is infected with malware like adware. If you are in doubt, you should scan your PC with a trustworthy online malware scanner and delete SoLucky right afterwards.

Of course, you can also install this extension through official channels, such as its own official website, solucky.co, and the Chrome web store, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/solucky/hjoklbpknpobbafbckcopemdnlgiclbk. In fact, the official page also redirects you to the web store to install this PUP. This extension was released less than two weeks ago so we cannot really say anything about the few hundred downloads, but it is definitely not too popular yet.

How does SoLucky work?

This extension displays a small button or icon in your Google Chrome browser toolbar somewhere next to the menu button. By clicking on this button you can display a pop-up window that contains the first three links of your latest Google web search and a link at the bottom so that you can check the whole list. This tool was designed to make your Google searches faster by offering you the first hit assuming that it is the one that is most likely the page that relates to your search the most. The creators also claim that by using this PUP, “We donate a grain of rice for every click you save to the World Food Program.” Well, this is obviously a nice gesture but, according to its Privacy Policy, this application may also show you third-party advertisements for which the creators do not take responsibility. This could mean that you might be exposed to potentially unsafe third-party ads. Clicking on such ad could put your virtual security at risk as you may drop infections or get redirected to malicious websites. Although basically this tool may sound like you are “so lucky” to have found it, we believe that it is best for you to remove SoLucky from your PC.
