What is Soft Cores?
Soft Cores is considered a Trojan by our researchers, so if you ever detect it on your computer, you should delete it right away. To be frank, it takes time for users to realize that this malicious application is installed on their computers because it seems that it tries to stay unnoticed. It not only enters computers illegally, but also performs activities in the background and does not have an interface. Of course, there are several symptoms showing that Soft Cores has been installed on the system successfully. First, you will find a new folder created in %APPDATA%. Second, a new Value will be created in the Run registry key. Third, the chances are high that your computer will start working quite sluggishly once this Trojan infection infiltrates your computer. If you have proof that it is responsible for the decrease in your computer’s speed, go to remove Soft Cores from your system as soon as possible. It is not one of those programs that act in a useful way. It is more likely that it will bring problems to you instead. We cannot promise that you could easily erase this Trojan infection from your computer because it does not have an uninstall entry in Control Panel, but we are sure you will manage to disable it one way or another. Read the rest of the article to find out how you can do that.
What does Soft Cores do?
Soft Cores is a typical cryptocurrency miner, so there is nothing new we can say about it. Like similar threats, it usually arrives on users’ computers unnoticed and then starts actively working on them right away. Since it is nothing more than the digital currency miner, it starts mining the cryptocurrency using CPU and, most probably, GPU power. Since Bitcoin is one of the most popular digital currencies, the chances are high that your computer’s resources will be used to mine this particular cryptocurrency. Of course, it might be used to mine other popular digital currencies too. The cryptocurrency mining does not sound like an extremely malicious activity, but you should still go to remove Soft Cores from your computer as soon as possible because it might make it impossible to use your computer normally. For example, since the computer starts working in full swing after its entrance, its speed might considerably decrease and, as a consequence, it might take longer to launch certain programs. Additionally, it might freeze or stop responding quite often. Owners of older computers notice all these symptoms more frequently if compared to users using brand new machines. Of course, you must delete Soft Cores no matter which group of users you belong to.
We cannot say that Soft Cores is a very sophisticated Trojan, but we have still noticed that it creates a Value (core_i) in the Run registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) the second it infiltrates users’ computers successfully. On top of that, you will find a new folder created in %AppData%\Architecture\member. You will need to delete ALL its components, so we cannot promise that the removal of this miner will be very easy.
Where does Soft Cores come from?
Before we talk about the Soft Cores removal, we want that you know how such programs are usually installed on users’ computers so that it would be easier to prevent them from entering your computer in the future. Researchers at anti-spyware-101.com are sure that such threats are usually installed on users’ PCs by malicious installers. In most cases, they are installed together with other applications, e.g. freeware, which explains why so many users know nothing about their installation. Luckily, hundreds of powerful antimalware tools ready to protect your computer from malware are available on the market – you should install one of them on your PC.
How to remove Soft Cores
Soft Cores is a Trojan, so do not expect to remove it easily through Control Panel. Of course, it does not mean that it is impossible to remove it manually. If you choose the manual method over the automatic one, you will need to delete the folder with files belonging to Soft Cores and undo the changes it has made in the system registry. Specifically speaking, you will need to remove the Value it has created. We are sure our manual removal guide will make its removal easier, so let it help you.
