What is Smart System Care?
At first sight, Smart System Care might seem like a beneficial program, but our research has revealed that it is just another potentially unwanted program (PUP) that proposes useless or bogus services just to make you pay money. Though the scanner represented by this program is free, you are asked to pay at least 23.95 EUR afterward, and this sum is inadequate to the services that are provided to you. At the time of analysis, this potentially unwanted program did not have an official source, which is a red flag as well. If a piece of software is not introduced to you in an official manner, trusting it is extremely dangerous. Have you downloaded the PUP packaged with other suspicious programs? If that is your situation, you might be dealing with dangerous malware. Therefore, the first step we recommend taking is scanning your operating system. Click the “Download” link below if you want to install a free malware scanner that is constantly updated to identify the latest infections. Hopefully, you do not need to remove Smart System Care along with other infections, but if you do, we will help you do that successfully.
How does Smart System Care work?
According to the researchers working at Anti-Spyware-101.com, Smart System Care was created by PC Fixer Tools, a company that is associated with another PUP called “Advanced-PCFixer.” Besides working in the same ways, these programs are also built similarly. For example, the folders they create usually include the name of the user’s computer (e.g., Smart-System-Care for [username]). Other programs that the PUP is similar to include System Healer and SystemKeeperPro. Although in most cases they have official download pages, we have already discussed the fact that Smart System Care does not have an official installer. That means that it could be spread by third-party software distributors who could bundle it along with other programs. Even if you install the PUP on its own, you should not trust it. First and foremost, it cannot offer you beneficial services. Even the free scanner is bogus, and so you should not pay any attention to the “issues” it allegedly finds. According to our research, this program might even identify legitimate software (e.g., WinRar) as malware that requires removal. Other “issues” it finds might include random temp files or empty registry keys. While it might be okay for you to delete them, that would not make your operating system run any smoother or faster.
It was found that Smart System Care can silently connect to the Internet without your knowledge. It is possible that this connection is required so that the developer of the PUP could collect and transfer information about you. Needless to say, if you are tricked into paying money for the bogus services of this program, the information you disclose during the purchase could be recorded as well. That means that your credit card number, full name, address, and other personal information could be collected. Unfortunately, there is very little information about the cookies that Smart System Care uses, primarily because there is no official information supporting this PUP altogether. Overall, we know that the program is useless, and we know that it is unpredictable, and that is a dangerous mix. Needless to say, our recommendation for you is to remove this potentially unwanted program immediately.
How to remove Smart System Care
Smart System Care will not take care of your operating system because it is incapable of doing that. Instead of finding real issues that are slowing down your operating system, this fake system optimizer will list files and registry keys that are unlikely to affect your system’s performance. In fact, the scanner of this PUP might even push you to remove the elements of authentic programs. On top of that, this PUP is not distributed in a transparent manner. These are the reasons you should consider deleting this suspicious application. You can uninstall it via Control Panel, or you can follow the instructions below. If multiple threats are found by a reliable malware scanner, we advise employing an anti-malware tool to have them erased automatically.
