What is Search4Musix?
Search4Musix is not a helpful application, regardless of what its creators say. And they say that you can find music directly from your web browser’s address bar using it. Although that is not exactly a lie, some users get the idea that they can listen to any song they want as if they were streaming Spotify or iTunes, and it is impossible to compare this potentially unwanted program (PUP) with a legitimate and trustworthy streaming service provider. Although that is the main reason we classify this extension as a PUP, it is not the only one. Our Anti-Spyware-101.com research team has thoroughly analyzed the extension in our internal lab, and the findings are presented further in this report. Just a quick disclaimer: The chances are that you have acquired the PUP bundled with other threats that might require removal, which is why, before you continue reading, we suggest performing a full system scan. Also note that the comments section below is open, and you can add any question you like to find an answer to. And if you are ready to delete Search4Musix, scroll down to find a removal guide.
How does Search4Musix work?
It is unlikely that the creator of Search4Musix is too worried about the services offered by the PUP, and it seems like they are more interested in spreading it as broadly as possible. While Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome users can acquire the potentially unwanted program willingly from elp.search4musix.com and chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search4musix/ekmplcjdhaakjjibpcppbncdbglklcbp, it is likely that it is also spread using third-party installers and various other sources. In fact, our research team warns that you might have downloaded the suspicious Search4Musix bundled with other PUPs and even malware. Of course, if more serious threats exist, you want to research and remove them first because they could be the most dangerous. All in all, even if you downloaded the PUP entirely on its own, you still want to delete it, and that is all due to its activity. As discussed already, the PUP does not offer beneficial services. If you enter “M” into the address bar and hit the Tab key, you can activate a search tool that will redirect to aztmusic.com, and this website plays songs available on youtube.com. To most users, this will be the most important reason to get rid of the PUP.
Our research team is most concerned about the search tool that Search4Musix comes bundled with. If you do not use the search using the M+Tab shortcut, all searches via the address bar are redirected anyway. That is because the PUP changes the default search provider to blpsearch.com. Is it trustworthy? It is not because it redirects to Yahoo Search. Many users might automatically assume that the search results are trustworthy – especially if they are used to using search.yahoo.com – but the results can be modified. It is possible that the results cannot be trusted because they could include misguiding sponsored content. In fact, this content could be created or selected based on the information that the cookies of Search4Musix are set to record. In conclusion, the PUP does not work, and it tracks information about you that, later on, could be used to deliver personally-targeted ads or links via a suspicious search engine.
