Sealoid

What is Sealoid?

When you install Sealoid onto your Google Chrome browser, you agree to the Privacy Policy presented by webcoapps, you agree to have your default search provider replaced, and you also agree to the introduction of advertisements whenever you browse the web. Although our Anti-Spyware-101.com malware experts have identified this extension as a PUP – which is short for “potentially unwanted program” – it would not be unfair to identify it as an advertising tool either. That is because when you search the web using it, it delivers ads. Unfortunately, it does that using the trusted Yahoo Search engine, and so some users might not even realize that the results they see are not exactly trustworthy. We fear that some users could even face virtual scams or unreliable websites if they continue using this PUP, which is why we recommend deleting it. Do you know how to remove Sealoid? We can show you how to do it.test

How does Sealoid work?

The installer of the suspicious Sealoid can be found on the Chrome Web Store. At the time of research, the installer on chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sealoid/gclpngnibiahkfeicjpghfphkiihajhl was still up, and there were over 10,000 downloads. It is likely that not all of these people have downloaded the PUP fully understanding how it works or knowing anything about it at all. The installer of the extension could be presented in aggressive ways. For example, an unreliable website could automatically open a page in full-screen pushing you to install the extension. The installer could also be pushed using false promotion. Perhaps you found the installer of Sealoid attached to a different program or extension you wanted to install, and you decided to give the unknown extension a chance? Maybe you did not notice it at all? Whatever the case might be, we advise using a legitimate malware scanner to examine your system. Hopefully, no other threats are found, and you can focus on the removal of the PUP. If threats are found, needless to say, you want to delete them as soon as possible.

According to our researchers, feed.sealoid.com is set as the default search provider and also the New Tab page after the installation of Sealoid. On the left of the page, you can find a column representing different tools. They include a file converter, a currency converter, a cryptocurrency converter, and also a calculator. You get the same thing if you use Spinyon, GalaxySpin, and other webcoapp PUPs. You also can add favorite websites for easy access. This is the only part of the PUP that is relatively useful. If you try to browse the web via Sealoid, you get redirect to Yahoo Search, where modified results are shown to present you with ads and links to the sites of unknown partners. Interacting with these unpredictable links/ads is dangerous business, and so we do not recommend getting involved. If you are careless, at the very least, you might let in cookies and other data-trackers to spy on you. In the worst-case scenario, you could end up on sites that are set up to scam people or expose them to malware.

How to remove Sealoid

If you want to browse the web efficiently, you have to be careful about the tools you choose to help you with that. Sealoid claims to offer beneficial services, but its claims fall short because this PUP is neither useful nor reliable. Instead of presenting you with useful search results, it modifies Yahoo Search results. On top of that, it gathers information and also shares it with unknown parties. As you might have guessed it already, we advise removing Sealoid. The good news is that this potentially unwanted program is not stubborn, and so deleting it should be very easy. Use the guide below if you too want to get rid of this extension. If the malware scanner we recommended using before has discovered threats, you also should consider using an anti-malware tool. It could automatically delete threats and also protect you in the future.
