Screen Watch

What is Screen Watch?

Screen Watch is a suspicious browser extension that promotes a search page that could pose a threat to your system security with its potentially unreliable features. As its name may suggest, this Google Chrome extension offers you quick links to movie-related websites as well as popular sites like Facebook and Amazon. Our malware specialists at anti-spyware-101.com classified this tool as a potentially unwanted program (PUP); although, it is possible that due to its capabilities it may be considered as a browser hijacker. In fact, it has been found that this PUP is very similar to others like Muzik and Seen On Screen. Since you could be exposed to potentially harmful third-party content (ads and links) while using this tool, we suggest that you remove Screen Watch even if you are a movie fan. Please read on to find out more about this threat.test

Where does Screen Watch come from?

Most likely you have not even visited the official page of this PUP, yournewtab.com. One of the reasons for our assumption is that its URL address is totally vague and does not really depict the tool itself, which would make it rather difficult for you to find it when searching the web. Also, this page has no content at all. A dark gray background with one pixel white in the middle is all you can find there. Now, is that not suspicious for you? We believe that it is already enough to delete Screen Watch if it has managed to infiltrate your system without your knowledge.

This PUP is only available now from the Chrome web store, chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/screen-watch/bkmjlcbkppjpiianckgofgolfojkdeep. Statistics show here over 150 thousand installations, which is quite high when it comes to questionable tools. Mostly, if we consider that not one of the users who installed it left any review. This, again, is a bit suspicious but let us tell you more so that you understand why we believe that it is best to remove Screen Watch.

Unfortunately, it is quite possible that you do not even recall installing this PUP. This is possible if you have installed a freeware bundle recently, which you downloaded from a shady freeware or torrent site. Another possibility is that you may have clicked on the wrong third-party banner or pop-up advertisement, which could have been displayed by a suspicious website or an adware infection hiding on your computer. If you drop such a bundle, you may infect your computer with PUPs, adware programs, browser hijackers, fake alerts, Trojans as well. This is why you cannot take it lightly if you find this PUP on board. We suggest that after you delete Screen Watch from your browser, you also run a reliable online malware scanner to identify all other possibly harmful programs.

How does Screen Watch work?

When you install this tool, it sets "hp.mysearch.com/SWN-VCN/b2bms/index.html?p2=%5ECTX%5Echr999%5EB2BMS%5E&n=NaN&st=tab&ptb=7E863FC8-ABEB-4486-B241-45831318B67A&si=&extVer=13.321.12.20475" as your homepage, new tab, and modifies your default search engine to search.mysearch.com. This tool offers you quick links to movie-related pages and widgets, such as Featured Trailer, Movie Genres, and Opening This Week (rottentomatoes.com/browse/opening). It seems that this PUP keeps trying to reach "ak.imagefarm.com/images/webtooltabs/widgets/", which is a site that security tools may flag as a threat.

We do not advise you to use this tool for searching the web for it may show you modified search results on an allegedly enhanced Google search results page. This page may contain questionable third-party ads and links, which could lead to malicious pages and thus, to more infections or even online scams. This is the main reason why we think that you should remove Screen Watch if you are a security-minded user.

How do I delete Screen Watch?

The only good thing we can mention about this PUP is that you can easily eliminate it if you follow our instructions below. Please, keep in mind that this PUP could be only one of several threats on board. If you do not erase all possible threat sources from your system, your PC could remain vulnerable to further malicious attacks. This is why we advise you to employ a reliable anti-malware program, such as SpyHunter.
