RecipeFox

What is RecipeFox?

RecipeFox is represented as a tool that can help you find the “most popular” recipes directly from your browser. It is also meant to include recipe ratings, summaries, and reviews, and provide you with access to “thousands of recipes for various meals.” On paper, so to speak, this extension can sound pretty great, but if you install it, you should be quick to realize that it is nothing more than a glorified search tool. On top of that, there is more than meets the eye, and not in the most positive way either. Our Anti-Spyware-101.com researchers have analyzed the suspicious extension, and it is our recommendation that you delete it immediately. If you are not sure what the fuss is about, you ought to read this report. By the end, you will know why the removal of this potentially unwanted program (PUP) is recommended. Should you want to discuss anything mentioned in this report, note that the comments section is open.test

How does RecipeFox work?

RecipeFox is introduced to Google Chrome users at recipefox.recipes, and they can download it from the Chrome Web Store at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/recipefox/mmkhajmnahcpkaobfcelbccdojdldolb. If this is where you downloaded the PUP from, you must have been informed that it changes the New Tab page, the homepage, the start page, and the default search to recipefox.recipes/search.html. What is this tool about? As you can see by looking at the screenshot, it displays a search dialog box and a few easy-access links to Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, and Shopping sites. There is nothing recipe-related for you. What if you enter a search keyword into the search box? According to our researchers, this action would redirect you to Google Search. Thankfully, the results are not modified, but that does not make RecipeFox any more useful. If you are trying to find recipes, you can use Google Search without installing the PUP. You will face the same results. Of course, that is not the only reason we recommend deleting the PUP. Our main concern is that this extension can track and leak personal information.

It is unlikely that you have reviewed the Privacy Policy found at recipefox.recipes/pp.php. However, this document shares quite a few interesting statements. Firs of all, it discloses that both personal and non-personal user information is collected. Second, it is revealed that this information can be shared “with third-parties in a number of ways and for a number of reasons.” Who are these parties? Unfortunately, that is not something that the Privacy Policy discloses, and that makes us worried. It is stated that third parties are “Commercial Partners,” but that does not make the situation any clearer. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know who exactly could obtain data about you and your virtual activity, and we certainly cannot know how this data could be used. For a tool that does not offer beneficial services, this is too big of a privilege, and we are sure that most users will choose to delete RecipeFox as soon as they learn that.

How to remove RecipeFox

Clearly, RecipeFox is not a beneficial tool, and while you can find recipes using it, that is only because it redirects to Google Search, one of the biggest search engines in the world. So, if you are happy with what you are finding, we suggest that you delete RecipeFox and then set Google Search as your homepage or default search provider. If you want to install another recipe-related extension, we strongly recommend that you do you research first. Check the reviews and ratings of the extension you are interested in, and do not forget to review the Privacy Policy supporting it as well. As for the PUP, you can delete it yourself using the guide below. The process is simple, and you do not need to have any special skills or previous experiences. Of course, if the PUP was installed along with unknown programs, or if you are having issues with manual removal, this might be the perfect time to install legitimate anti-malware software to assist you.
