What is QuericsSearch?
Have you been introduced to QuericsSearch in a way that made you think that this is the tool that can change the way you browse the web? Perhaps you were convinced that it can configure your searches to present only the most relevant and useful results, but that is the goal of any legitimate and popular search tool. Without a doubt, you want to pay close attention to whatever you install, and it is a mistake to only pay attention to what the creator of an extension wants you to believe. Our Anti-Spyware-101.com research team has determined that this extension is a potentially unwanted program – PUP – and it is strongly recommended that you remove it from your Google Chrome browser. If you have already decided that that is what you want to do, perhaps you are not interested in our findings, but if you are curious to learn as to why we suggest deleting QuericsSearch, we suggest that you keep reading.
How does QuericsSearch work?
Perhaps you downloaded QuericsSearch from the Chrome Web Store. You can find the PUP’s installer at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/quericssearch/cnaimmneidicicnlnloanocggegmfjne. Or perhaps you found the extension attached to another, probably more attractive program. If that is the case, it is most likely that you executed a bundled downloader, and we cannot say what kinds of programs could have been dropped along with the PUP. If you are not sure about this either, click the Download button below and install a malware scanner. It will inspect your system thoroughly, and once that is done, you will know if there is anything that you need to delete besides the suspicious extension. Speaking of the extension more specifically, it appears that it was created not to help Chrome users search the web but to help third-party advertisers to collect information about users and use that information to deliver advertisements. This is not kept as a secret, but you have to review the Privacy Policy at search.querics.net/privacy to learn all about it. So, do you want to use a tool that assists unknown parties in collecting information about you and also delivering advertisements?
It is not fully clear how QuericsSearch can show third-party advertisements, but it is possible that it could use its search service for that. After the PUP is installed, search.querics.net is set as the default search provider, and if you use this tool, you are redirected to a third-party search engine for results. This might create an illusion that the PUP is actually presenting search results, but of course, it merely redirects to a different search engine. At the moment, it redirects to Yahoo Search (search.yahoo.com), but we know that it used to redirects to Google Search (google.com/search) before that. These kinds of inconsistencies are very unnerving, especially when it comes to PUPs. We have reported hundreds of redirecting PUPs that are able to modify search results and show advertisements in place of normal results, and we fear that that could happen with QuericsSearch as well. If you do not want to see ads when searching the web, we advise considering the removal of this potentially unwanted program.
How to delete QuericsSearch
As far as PUPs go, QuericsSearch is not a unique or complicated one, and we are sure that its users can delete it manually. All one has to do is access the Extensions menu and click the right button. If you are not familiar with this process, please follow the manual QuericsSearch removal instructions below. Of course, since cookies are implanted to collect and transmit information, we also suggest clearing browsing data. What about other threats? If you have already scanned your system, and you have discovered other threats, you ought to remove them as well. And how can you do that? One option is to delete them manually just like the PUP, and we hope that you can use our website to find the removal guides you need. Another option – and the one we recommend – is to employ anti-malware software that can erase all threats automatically. Want to discuss this or the PUP further? Add a comment below.
