What is PC-BOLT?
PC-BOLT seems to be a decent scanner that can find system-related errors and unwanted files. Even though the majority of users believe that the program is beneficial and can be fully trusted, specialists at anti-spyware-101.com have found it very suspicious that this piece of software does not have an uninstaller. In other words, it cannot be removed from the system through Control Panel. In addition, it does not have an official website, which suggests that it usually finds other ways to sneak onto computers, and there is not much information about it on the web. As researchers have found that PC-BOLT is a rather suspicious program, they have decided to conduct research to find out more about the software. Unfortunately, they have decided to put PC-BOLT into the category of potentially unwanted programs after doing that. We are going to tell you why it is so further in this article. In case you decide not to keep this scanner installed too after reading this report, feel free to use instructions which you will find placed below.
What does PC-BOLT do?
PC-BOLT really scans the system (or at least it pretends to do so) after it is launched. Also, it shows scan results for users. In most cases, it claims that there is a bunch of serious system errors that have to be fixed. Nobody knows whether these scan results are 100% trustworthy; however, specialists believe that they might be exaggerated. Security specialists suspect that the scan results might be untrustworthy because PC-BOLT seeks to convince users to call 1-866-289-9001. Yes, it promotes this number. On top of that, some users also complain that they see BSOD windows with another number 1-888-451-1606 too. It is not surprising that a number of users make a call because they do know that these BSOD screens are fake. We want to warn you that these numbers might be premium-rate numbers even though they seem to be toll-free at first sight. In addition, the “technical support” might ask you to provide your personal information and then might sell it to third parties. Last but not least, you might be offered to buy expensive software for fixing PC errors. Unfortunately, this software might not work at all or be nonexistent.
It has also been observed that PC-BOLT does not add a folder with all the main files to %PROGRAMFILES% (%PROGRAMFILES%(x86)%) like other similar programs. It only creates two .exe and .tmp files in the %Temp% directory instead. In addition, it creates the PC-BOLT Value in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run registry key in order to be able to start together with Windows OS. The only way to restore all those changes is to delete the potentially unwanted program from the system.
Where does PC-BOLT come from?
As you already know, specialists were unable to find the official website of PC-BOLT. Therefore, it is very likely that this piece of software tends to enter systems without permission. In addition, there is also a possibility that this program has been dropped on the system by a malicious updater. Of course, it seems that this potentially unwanted program is available for download on third-party websites as well. To make sure that undesirable software does not enter your system again, you should install a security tool and keep it there all the time. In addition, it would be clever not to visit questionable websites as well. If you keep our advice in mind, we are sure that you will not allow other threats similar to PC-BOLT to sneak onto your computer ever again.
