What is OpenSub Search?
What search tool are you using to browse the web? If it is OpenSub Search, you need to think carefully if this search tool is, first and foremost, useful and, second, safe to use. Our team of researchers at Anti-Spyware-101.com does not think that it is incredibly useful or trustworthy, and that is why we classify it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and recommend removing it. If you want to learn more about the findings of our research team, you certainly should keep reading this report. If you are mainly interested in deleting OpenSub Search, know that we discuss different elimination options as well. If that is all that you want to learn about, you can scroll down to the last section.
How does OpenSub Search work?
OpenSub Search is a product of Becovi Ltd., and it does not look like this company has created a website to represent this tool. This is kind of strange, given that most well-known, popular tools have transparent representation. That being said, this PUP is still promoted via the Chrome Web Store, which many Chrome users trust. If you downloaded the PUP from chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/opensub-search/dkpeabmcccfccdlaeejhkapiofpjolaf, it is most likely that you have been convinced that OpenSub Search is a useful tool. In fact, the description does not paint the most beautiful picture. Users are simply informed that the tool offers a search engine. Strangely enough, thousands of people have this tool installed already, which is why we have to consider the possibility that the PUP is advertised in aggressive ways, and that people are tricked into installing it. If you felt forced to install this extension, or if you do not know how it got in, we are sure that you want to delete it immediately. However, the first thing you should do is scan your system to make sure that no other PUP or threat has slithered in at the same time.
Once you install OpenSub Search, it immediately changes the default search provider on Google Chrome to search.becovi.com. Can this search tool be trusted? Although it presents unique search results, it is hard to say how trustworthy they are. You certainly can be greeted with ads, and the results could be based on your browsing activity and preferences. Even the Privacy Policy informs that “third parties’ products” could be presented via the search service. The thing is that nothing is revealed about these third parties, and so it is difficult to judge how safe it is for you to interact with the presented search results. Also, note that your own personal data can be recorded and shared with these unknown parties. So, is a questionable search service useful enough to have to deal with data collection and suspicious product placement within search results? If you decide that it is not, there is only one thing left to do, and that is to remove OpenSub Search.
How to delete OpenSub Search
Do not worry too much about the removal of OpenSub Search if you are inexperienced. Even the least experienced Google Chrome users should be able to follow the steps below. All you really need to do is access the unwanted add-on in the ‘Extensions’ menu. Besides eliminating a questionable PUP, we also suggest taking a look at browsing data. If you know when the PUP was installed, you can pick the appropriate time range and clear all data. Or you can pick and choose what you want to clear. A guide on how to do that is included in the instructions too. Of course, this is not what you should focus on if other threats or potentially unwanted programs exist. In that case, employing trusted anti-malware software that can delete OpenSub Search and all other threats simultaneously is recommended. This software can not only perform the removal automatically but also ensure further protection against PUPs in the future.
