NRA Toolbar

What is NRA Toolbar?

NRA Toolbar is a browser plugin that can easily be considered to be a potentially unwanted application as well. Based on its name, the application seems to be directly related to the National Rifle Association of America, which is a nonprofit organization, founded to promote firearm safety, competence and ownership. Nevertheless, it seems that NRA Toolbar is more of a nuisance rather than a useful browser application, not to mention that it might be exploited to make your system vulnerable to outside threats. It is obvious that you need to remove NRA Toolbar from the PC to ensure its safety.test

Where does NRA Toolbar come from?

Although it is possible for NRA Toolbar to arrive bundled with freeware, just like it is the case of many other browser plug-ins and applications, our security researchers suggest that there are no noticeable or at least known bundles that would be carrying NRA Toolbar around in their setup.

Thus, the official website for NRA Toolbar remains the main source of distribution. The main website for NRA Toolbar can be accessed at nraila.org, and it used to have a toolbar download link at nraila.org/toolbar. However, the download link is no longer available, because the plug-in is an old product that is no longer supported by the main home page.

What does NRA Toolbar do?

Nevertheless, there are still old samples of the toolbar floating around the internet. For example, a sample of this plug-in can be encountered at s31.freecause.com/NRAToolbar.exe. The toolbar comes with a full-fledged installation wizard, so it is impossible to say that it enters the system surreptitiously. However, it does have an additional application called Weather Bug Alert, and it also has advanced options where you can choose between Recommended and Custom installation. Recommended installation is chosen in advanced, and if you go on with it, you will have “NRA Web Search your default search engine, enable new tab page with a web search box, set your home page, enable NRA contributions”.

Chances are that a lot of NRA Toolbar’s functions are no longer available, considering that the main website does not support it anymore, but the application might also be used to collect data on what websites you frequent and so on. All in all, it would be for the best to remove NRA Toolbar from your PC, so that you would avoid any potential system threats.
