What is Norassie?
Our cyber security experts say that Norassie is not a single application, but an adware family that includes several or even more adware-type applications that come as browser extensions. The adware in this family is said to be distributed with the help of software bundles that can install it onto your browser secretly. Its objective is to show you advertisements while you browse the web. The ads generate revenue for the company responsible for releasing it. We recommend that you remove it because its ads are annoying and intrusive. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the ads are safe. Hence, some of them can redirect you to scam websites. In short, this application is no good.
Where does Norassie come from?
As mentioned, Norassie is an adware family. Our security experts say that the adware is developed by a company called Norassie LTD that has its own website at http://norassie.org. The company offers to improve a business’s processes. It offers companies a competitive strategy but says nothing about ads. The wording used on the website is vague and does not say what it actually offers its potential clients. All of the adware programs are digitally signed by Norassie LTD under the authority of Comodo CA Limited.
Norassie adware is known to be bundled with malicious software installers featured on unreliable freeware websites. The bundled installers can feature questionable software that would fall into the category of potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that are featured as the primary software. Researchers say that it can come bundled with PC optimization software that does not work, as well as browser hijackers that replace your browser’s homepage address and claim to protect your privacy. Additional software that includes Norassie adware should be offered as a bonus. The bundled installers can be configured to install it on your computer automatically without your knowledge or approval. However, so installers might not be so forceful and allow you to deselect the adware after clicking advanced or custom installation settings.
What does Norassie do?
Norassie adware are dedicated to showing you commercial advertisements that are set to appear on sites such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, eBay including non-shopping sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The ads can be displayed as coupons and banners. These programs can promote all kinds of special deals and discounted products which should be represented honestly. However, as with most adware programs, there is doubt because most adware programs are deceptive and often promote shady content. Since adware from Norassie is distributed using potentially malicious tactics, researchers say that its ads too can be malicious. For example, the banners and coupons can redirect you to fake online shopping websites that can scam you. Furthermore, it can redirect you to sites that feature shady questionnaires that want you to leave your email and then spam you with suspicious offers.
