What is Music Center Search?
Our cybersecurity specialists have tested Music Center Search and concluded it to be a potentially unwanted program because of the way its developers distribute it. Hence, you can get redirected to its download website from torrent and other content distributing sites. Apart from that, it seems to provide its users with the features it claims to provide. This browser extension is by no means malicious, but you might want to remove it from your PC, provided that you got it accidentally. In this article, we will talk about how this extension is distributed, how it works, and how you can get rid of it. For more information, please read this whole article.
What does Music Center Search do?
Offers its users free unlimited music, songs, albums, music videos, and so on. If you install it on your browser, then it will add its icon to the top-right of the browser. If you click that icon, then a drop-down window will appear that will allow you to select one of several bread music genres. If you click on a genre, then you will be redirected t Gomusix.com, a website that provides a music streaming service. In our estimation, this website is entirely legitimate, but its connection with Music Center Search is rather questionable because the owners of that website might not know that this extension uses their music website pretending it is part of that extension. Truth be told, this application is not malicious and you may even find it quite useful. However, since its developers use dishonest methods to get it onto your browser, you might not want to keep it.
Where does Music Center Search come from?
Music Center Search was created by a company called PlayMediaCenter. This company’s PO Box is based in Atlanta, Georgia, United Stated, or so it is said. The fact of the matter is that there is no telling whether this company is itself is located there. Nothing else is known about this company apart from the fact that it promotes similar applications related to video games and videos in general.
PlayMediaCenter has a website at Playmediacenter.com. This website hosts links to downloads of four browser extensions for Chrome that redirect to the Chrome Web Store when clicked. However, a link for Music Center Search is nowhere to be found. Our malware analysts have found that Music Center Search is also featured on the Chrome Web Store and the store stats say that this extension has close to 68,000 users. The primary reason we have classified this extension as a potentially unwanted program is the fact that you can get it on your PC accidentally from torrent and other download websites can redirect you to its Chrome Store web page and compel you do download it. Also, the redirections can initiate the download automatically, and if you accidentally accept the installation, then it will get on your browser.
