What is Mipony?
Mipony is an adware application that can be considered a potentially unwanted program. It is not a malicious computer infection, but you are not advised to keep in your computer. This program is often categorized as potentially unwanted application, because users may have no intention to install Mipony on their computers and yet it arrives there. That may happen if you download this program bundled with freeware. Either way, you should remove all the unwanted applications from your PC including Mipony as soon as possible, and then make sure that you do not download and install any other undesirable programs.
Where does Mipony come from?
One of the reasons why we cannot classify this application as malware is its official webpage. The program seems absolutely legal, and you can download it easily at mipony.net. The applications functions as a plug-in and it is compatible with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers.
Apart from the official website, it should be pointed out that Mipony can be bundled with Mobogenie which is also a legitimate application that definitely does not intend to expose you to potentially harmful content. However, users often overlook installation steps and miss pieces of information that inform them about the additional apps that are about to be installed on their computers.
What does Mipony do?
As far as Mipony’s functions are concerned, it is a download manager that can help you manage your downloads from multiple file hosting websites. It supports Mediafire, Filesave, Rapidshare, MEGA, Sendspace, 4shared and an extensive number of other third party file hosting pages. If you download from such pages often, you may find Mipony useful, but security experts warn that you should think twice before allowing Mipony to remain in your system.
The problem is that from time to time this application may display pop-up advertisements and download updates that might affect your Internet traffic. Pop-ups are not malicious on their own, but such applications like Mipony cannot be responsible for their content, and thus the pop-ups might get exploited in a cyber-scam devised for malware distribution.
How to remove Mipony?
Once again, it should be pointed out that Mipony IS NOT a malware infection, and you can easily remove the application via Control Panel. Simply remove it from the installed programs list and then make sure you uninstall any other related programs you do not want to keep on your computer as well.
To be absolutely sure that your computer is protected against any potential threats, scan it with SpyHunter free scanner and then do not hesitate to invest in a reliable antimalware tool if need be. You should do all you can to ensure that your system and your personal data are safe.
