What is MaxDownload?
MaxDownload may sound like a download manager that is at the top of the trade by maxing out and providing the utmost services a user might need when it comes to searching for and downloading torrent, music, or video files. However, that could not be further from the truth. Stepping out of the pink bubble, we can face the sad and bleak reality: This is a useless, non-functioning piece of software. Because of its questionable reliability, our researchers at Anti-Spyware-101.com have labeled it as a PUP, i.e., a potentially unwanted program. This PUP may not flood your screen with annoying advertisements, but it also does not seem to do anything at all. Nevertheless, this application might be exploited by cyber criminals and used to spy on you, for example. That is why we recommend removing MaxDownload from your computer.

Where does MaxDownload come from?
It has been reported that there are two major ways for this PUP to enter your system. You can download it from its official website, maxdownloader.com, which seems to be a Russian website. Unfortunately, you can only find a Russian EULA, so, if you do not speak the language, you will not really know what you are about to download and what you might expect while using the software. The other, more unfortunate, way for this program to infiltrate you system is via freeware bundles. MaxDownload has been found bundled with a file that looks like a .torrent file but under the surface it is an executable program instead. This PUP can also come with a variety of malware infections. If you are unlucky and have installed the bundled version, it would be advisable to delete MaxDownload and scan your system for possible threats.
How does MaxDownload work?
MaxDownload is detected as a Trojan horse by some of the antivirus engines, although it does not seem to exhibit such capabilities. Nonetheless, it is a totally worthless application with no functionality whatsoever. Once it is installed, it makes some changes to your system so that it can start up with Windows. But why would a program that has no function do that? Keep in mind that cyber criminals might be able to utilize such an app for their malicious purposes or simply for gathering data about you, for instance. No matter what the real purpose behind MaxDownload is, you are most probably better off removing this PUP from your PC.
