What is Lock93 Ransomware?
Lock93 Ransomware is probably one of your worst nightmares. This program will slither into your computer behind your back, and it will lock your files. This file lock-up occurs because the folks behind this program aim at your money. Of course, the ransomware application cannot steal your money directly. It does not have the capability of logging your key strokes and leaking your banking logins, but if the users give their money away for the supposed decryption key, then it is practically no different from a robbery at gun-point. It is obvious that you need to remove Lock93 Ransomware from your computer to resume the normal daily operations.
Where does Lock93 Ransomware come from?
Although the program looks like an exceptionally dangerous threat, it employs the same distribution tactics as most of the ransomware applications. It spreads through spam email messages. Of course, here you might say that all of your spam mails go into the Junk box, but it is clear that it is not 100% true. It is possible that some of the spam campaign messages are created in a way that allows them to avoid the Junk filter, and they land in your main inbox. In such a case, these spam messages look like legitimate mails from reputable organizations.
For instance, some of the mail messages that spread Lock93 Ransomware around may look like an invoice from some online store. Also, it could look like a report or a financial statement from your bank. Either way, the fact that these mails expect you to open an attachment should ring an alarm in your head. Attachments can be easily used for malware distribution and so no reputable site would send you one. Unfortunately, users often operate on auto-pilot when it comes to checking their emails, and it so it is no surprise they end up opening the attachment that is part of the ransomware program’s distribution network.
What does Lock93 Ransomware do?
Once the program enters your computer, it scans your system, looking for the file extensions it can encrypt. After that, it runs the encryption. Generally, most of the commonly used files get encrypted, thus rendering you unable to proceed with your daily activities. However, it should be pointed out that Lock93 Ransomware does not lock the system or your browser, so you can use a security tool of your choice in the Normal mode to remove this infection.
Once the encryption is complete, the ransomware will show you a warning message on your screen. This warning board is presented in both, Russian and English. Judging from the message, it is possible to assume that the main targets of this scam are computer users in the Russian Federation. However, the program can reach you anywhere, so, once again, you should be careful about the attachments you open.
The message this program displays says that you need to send a code to the given email addresses. The main email address is oplaticydadeng@mail.ru. The secondary email address is zaplatiddeng@yandex.ru. The fact that there are two email addresses to contact the criminals behind this infection implies that the connection between the infection and its main command and control server may not be reliable. It could falter any moment and thus the program needs a backup plan or a backup email in this case.
The ransom note goes on to say that after you contact these criminals, “you will get payment instructions,” and “after payment you will get the unlock code and your data will be decrypted.” It warns you not to try and “delete or modify files with extension lock93 and virus files because it can destroy your data.” After that, it says that you need to pay 1000 Russian rubles to get your files back. It is highly questionable whether that is really the case, so your best option right now is to remove Lock93 Ransomware for good.
