InternetSpeedTester

What is InternetSpeedTester?

InternetSpeedTester is a new version, or should we say, a perfect clone of a previous potentially unwanted program (PUP) called UltimateSpeedTester. This is a desktop application that shows you your Internet speed as you may have already figured out based on its name. The truth is, this is a totally useless application since it simply uses an existing website to display your Internet speed. This PUP autoruns with your Windows operating system, which cannot be overruled by the user. We find this rather annoying and also aggressive. Although this tool may not yet be available on its future official website, you may still install it under questionable conditions. Therefore, it is quite possible that you will find more serious malware infections on your system as well. We certainly do not encourage anyone to keep such a useless and questionable program on board. This is why we advise you to remove InternetSpeedTester from your computer. Please read on if you would like to know how you can avoid similar threats in the future.

Where does InternetSpeedTester come from?

Our malware experts at anti-spyware-101.com have found the future official website at ispt.dist-app.com. This is rather a webpage yet that has no information whatsoever. Even the title reflects the previous clone. You can download a program if you click on the red Download button; however, this program is none other than Messenger Time, which has nothing to do with Internet speed, but it may well be yet another useless and potentially unreliable program. So, obviously, you cannot yet install this program officially. This could already be suspicious enough for anyone to want to delete InternetSpeedTester if found on the system. However, this may not be all.

As a matter of fact, this PUP seems to be spreading in free software bundles for the time being. This would not be a big problem if it were to be found only in legitimate packages. Unfortunately, it is possible that this questionable software is promoted by malicious bundles as well, which could be packed with malware infections as well. Such a bundle can normally carry any kind of threats, including adware programs, browser hijackers, keyloggers, backdoors, Trojans, and more. If you have visited shady file-sharing, online gaming, gambling, dating, or video streaming websites lately, chances are you clicked on unsafe third-party contents like fake buttons or downloaded a malicious bundle thinking it is your targeted free software only. All in all, we advise you to delete InternetSpeedTester and scan your computer with a proper online malware scanner to detect all possible threat sources.

How does InternetSpeedTester work?

Our experts say that this PUP is quite similar to WikiZ, WikiThemes, and DailyWiki. The main difference is that this desktop application displays another website, fast.com, to show you your Internet speed. Although we have not found any signs that this software does anything malicious in the background, it does not give you too much value, either. In fact, you can check your Internet speed anytime simply from your browsers by visiting such a website. So why would you use a questionable program that may have entered your computer in questionable ways possibly bringing several more serious malicious threats on board. This is why we think that it is important that you make up your mind and remove InternetSpeedTester from your PC.

How do I delete InternetSpeedTester?

Unfortunately, this PUP cannot be fully uninstalled via Control Panel because it leaves some leftovers behind. However, we have prepared a guide below for you if you choose to manually eliminate this useless program from your system. Keep in mind though that this may only be the first step towards a secure computer and virtual world. You need to take care of all the threats that may be hiding on your PC.
