HidenGate

What is HidenGate?

HidenGate appears to be a potentially unwanted program. The application falls under such classification because it might be distributed with bundled software installers offered on untrustworthy file-sharing web pages. Not to mention, instead of protecting user’s network privacy it is possible the tool might track user’s browsing to show him annoying advertising content. We doubt keeping such a questionable application would be smart, which is why we advise not to waste any time with it. Those of you who would like to erase HidenGate manually could follow the instructions available at the end of this text. Where does HidenGate come from?

HidenGate is available on hidengate.xyz, but our researchers at Anti-spyware-101.com say the potentially unwanted program might travel with bundled setup files as well. Meaning, users could encounter it accidentally when trying to install another piece of software. For example, setup files bundled with it might be downloaded from various P2P file-sharing networks, sites offering pirated software, etc. Thus, if you do not want to download malicious applications or other threats, accidentally you should try to stay away from web pages that could contain it. Another good idea would be to scan unreliable installers before launching them, and if you do decide to run them, you should pay close attention to all conditions and terms to avoid bundled software or other unwanted material.

How does HidenGate work?

The tool’s description provided on its official site (hidengate.xyz) states the application is supposed to protect the user’s network anonymity. However, our researchers doubt the potentially unwanted program works this way since it appears to be that it might be able to track the user or even display targeted third-party advertising content afterward. The most suspicious part is after installation HidenGate creates folders in usual directories along with a few Registry entries, but there are no signs of its presence. To be more accurate, it does not have a window or even anything similar to it. Therefore, the potentially unwanted program has no settings options the user could alter, for example, to stop the software from auto starting with the operating system. No doubt, we would not advise keeping a tool that acts so suspiciously, especially when it is most likely you will not gain anything beneficial from leaving it installed.
