What is Cyspt Ransomware?
Cyspt Ransomware is a malicious computer infection that was created with the intention to rip innocent users off. It encrypts personal files and then asks users to pay a ransom for the decryption key. Unfortunately, paying the ransom would not guarantee that this infection would restore your files. Rather than giving away your money, you should focus on deleting Cyspt Ransomware for good. You can do that by following the instructions you will find below this description. If you encounter any difficulty while trying to remove this infection manually, be sure to get yourself a licensed antispyware tool or address a professional technician.
Where does Cyspt Ransomware come from?
As far as we know, Cyspt Ransomware is based on an open-source project ARESCrypt. This open-source ransomware is coded in the C# programming language, and it is very likely that it is available out in public, for anyone who knows where to acquire it. Most probably, the program can be found on the darknet. Either way, Cyspt Ransomware is a modified version of the original ARESCrypt project.
When someone borrows the basic code for ransomware infections, they tend to modify it based on what they want the program to do. However, there are certain things about ransomware that never change: these programs usually come with phishing emails, and they encrypt your files.
Perhaps the most annoying part about any ransomware infection is that it would be really easy to avoid it if users knew how to recognize the signs. For instance, there are a lot of spam emails that land into our inboxes every single day, but only a few carry attachments. What’s more, these attachments often look like legitimate documents, and the message or tone of the email tends to urge the user to open the attached file immediately. If users do not stop to think twice before opening the file, they get infected with Cyspt Ransomware (or any other ransomware infection for that matter).
It would definitely save you the trouble of dealing with a dangerous infection if you deleted spam emails immediately. Also, even if you think that the attached file is safe, you can always scan it with a security tool, just to see whether there’s really nothing suspicious about it. By developing such habits, you would be able to avoid a ransomware infection.
What does Cyspt Ransomware do?
It probably doesn’t take a genius to realize that Cyspt Ransomware encrypts target files the moment this program enters your system. Upon the infection, this program also opens a message box that pops up onto your screen. The message box says “Error: Operating system incompatible. Exiting.” After that, it carries out file encryption, and all the files in the following directories get encrypted: Desktop, MyPictures, MyMusic, Downloads.
As you can see, Cyspt Ransomware only targets specific directories, so if you keep most of your files in other folders, the program may not touch them at all. Also, if you keep copies of your music and pictures in some other folder or an external hard drive, encryption shouldn’t bother you. You can just remove Cyspt Ransomware, delete the encrypted files, and transfer the healthy copies back into your PC.
What you should NEVER do is follow the instructions in the ransom note that this program displays. Cyspt Ransomware says the following:
What Happened to My Computer?
Your important files are encrypted.
Many of your documents, photos, videos, databases, and other files are no longer
accessible because they have been encrypted.
<…>
But if you want to decrypt all your files, you need to pay.
You only have 24 hours to submit the initial, low rate payment. After that the price will be doubled.
Also, if you don’t pay in 3 days, you won’t be able to recover your files forever.
The initial payment is $40 worth of Bitcoin, but paying the ransom would not solve anything. This program was released quite some time ago, and it is far more likely that they cannot issue the decryption key anymore. In other words, the best way to deal with this infection is to remove it for good.
