What is CVLocker Ransomware?
Anti-Spyware-101.com malware research team warns about a new infection that goes by the name CVLocker Ransomware. This threat is not a fully-fledged infection that encrypts files, but that does not make it any less dangerous. In fact, our research team is more worried about this infection than other well-known threats because it is so mysterious and unpredictable. According to the latest information, this threat could be upgraded at any point, and new, more powerful versions could emerge. If this malicious threat has not slithered into your operating system yet, you need to read this report to find out how to protect yourself against it. In case, you have found this infection on your PC, you need to learn how to delete it, and that is something we cover in this report as well. Even if it has not encrypted any files yet, you must remove CVLocker Ransomware because this threat might be much more harmful than you can imagine. Read the report carefully, and make sure to post questions – if you have any – in the comments section below.
How does CVLocker Ransomware work?
At the time of research, CVLocker Ransomware could not encrypt files, which, of course, is the main task for the infections of this kind. While it is possible that this threat is not fully developed yet, there is another scenario. Many recently detected ransomware infections are fictitious, and they only claim to have encrypted files to make users pay ransom fees. Some of these fictitious threats include Blooper Ransomware, Elmers Glue Locker Ransomware, and DeadSec-Crypto Ransomware. These infections are misleading, and they try to convince their victims that their personal files are encrypted only to coerce them into paying ransoms. The devious CVLocker Ransomware also shows a message suggesting that the files were encrypted, when, in reality, they were not. Unfortunately, we do not know yet whether this infection is trying to deceive users or if it is not fully developed yet, in which case, it might start encrypting files in the future. The ransom note is represented via the “CVLocker” window, where it is suggested that your files were locked because you were “Watching MLG Montage Parodies,” “Expanding Dong,” or “Creating Bonzi Buddy.” Additionally, the notification includes a timer, and it is suggested that you only have an hour to email cyber criminals.
The entrance of CVLocker Ransomware is still a mystery, and that might be the case because this threat is not distributed yet. In most cases, ransomware infections are spread via misleading spam emails, where the launcher is concealed as a normal-looking file. Of course, malicious installers could be employed as well, and ransomware can be downloaded by Trojans that are already active on the infected PC. Even if you know exactly how this threat has slithered into your operating system, you should not just assume that other infections do not exist. Once you delete CVLocker Ransomware, we strongly advise scanning the computer with a legitimate malware scanner to investigate the matter further. Hopefully, other infections do not exist, but, if they do, you want to remove them as soon as possible.
How to remove CVLocker Ransomware
The first thing you need to do is kill the process that shows the “CVLocker” window. Once you terminate it, you can check whether or not your files were encrypted. It is more likely that they are not, and you can go ahead with the elimination of the ransomware. All you need to know to delete CVLocker Ransomware successfully is the location of the {random name}.exe file that is the launcher of this threat. If you know where it is, you can remove it in a few easy steps. Note that the malicious process can help you find the malicious executable, and so you should follow the steps below carefully. Alternatively, install an anti-malware tool that will erase the infection from your PC automatically. As mentioned before, other threats might be active, and if that is the case, the tool will erase them as well. Even more important is that this tool can reliably protect you against other infections that might try to slither in, and these ones could encrypt your files, leading to their loss, and, potentially, the loss of your savings.
