What is Clean PC Master?
It may look legitimate, but make no mistake — Clean PC Master an unreliable PC cleaner/anti-malware. It is just another potentially unwanted program that you should remove because its purpose is to scam you and get your hard-earned cash. Our researchers have tested this application and have come to the conclusion that it will barely do anything to improve your computer’s performance. Moreover, in addition to not resolving any system-related issues, it will create one and then some. Our research has revealed that this supposed cleaner will generate fake errors to make you purchase it and dial a premium-rate tech support number. Please continue reading for additional information.
Where does Clean PC Master come from?
Our research has revealed that this program comes from the same developers as One10 PC Cleaner and Zeast PC Tuneup. We do not know the name of the clandestine developer that created these applications, but the fact that their developers fail to take responsibility for developing them is enough to assume that there is something wrong with these programs. The research has also revealed that Clean PC Master is most likely distributed via software bundles since it does not seem to have a dedicated distribution website, although we have found its installer on Softtonicllc.com/cpm(.)exe. However, you cannot access this site without having its full address, so it is evident that it is not meant to be accessible to everyone. Therefore, our researchers assume that Clean PC Master is bundled with other applications that are put up for download on borderline-legitimate freeware sharing websites. However, we want to warn you that such sites configure the bundles in such a way that you cannot see the additional software. So always opt for advanced installation settings and uncheck the checkbox of all suspicious or unwanted software because otherwise you might end up installing programs, such as Clean PC Master.
How does Clean PC Master work?
If you somehow got this program on your computer, then be prepared for nasty surprises. After testing it, our researchers have concluded that its PC cleaning function only involves deleting temp files in folders such as C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp. However, you can do this manually if you want to gain a bit more space on your HDD. It is also claimed that Clean PC Master is an anti-malware program. If you run its scan for malware, then rest assured, it will find multiple infections and ask that you purchase it if you want the security threats to be removed. On top of that, this program will randomly open a Blue Screen of Death error window to try to scare you. However, this error message is fake. Our researchers say that this BSoD error includes a small window in a white background that is displayed on the lower-right side of the window. This window is there to promote a fake premium-rate tech support phone number. This is an indication that the error is bogus because a real BSoD does not feature any additional windows with phone numbers. The fake error message reads:
All Services have been stopped to prevent further damage. You could restart the computer to see if the problem is fixed. However, if the problem persists, then you may call on the number mentioned below or may find a solution online.
This is a clear-cut case of an outright scam. If you dial the number, you will only waste your time and money because there might not be anyone on the other end of the line, but call time will run and charge you for it. Therefore, we encourage you to uninstall this program as soon as the opportunity arises. Please consult our removal instructions for more information.
