How to Improve PC Speed

What is How to Improve PC Speed?

Increase your PC’s Performance in 8 Easy Steps

The following tips for making a PC run faster should be received as ongoing maintenance of high speed of your machine.

Tip #1. Change the Settings of Startup Programs

If you do not allow unimportant startup programs to run when you log onto your computer, the machine will start running faster.

For Windows Vista/7

  • Open Start menu.
  • In the search box, type msconfig and hit Enter.

For Windows XP

  • Select Start menu.
  • Open Run.
  • Type msconfig and press Enter.

Select the Startup tab and un-check unwanted startup programs. Confirm by clicking on OK, and when a new window appears, select Restart.

Tip #2. Update Your Windows to Have High-Level Performance

It is highly advisable to update Windows periodically so that the performance of your machine meets the highest standards. If you keep your operating system un-updated for a long time, the overall performance may decrease drastically, which may be an underlying causes of infections of malware and system errors. To check available updates and update your Windows, open your Start menu, select All Programs and click on Windows Update. You will be directed to a Windows Update website from where you will be able to download a selected Windows update.

Tips #3. Make Sure your Hard Drive is Defragmented Regularly

Defragmentation of the system is helpful in enhancing the system’s performance. Different files scattered in different locations are neatly organized, which enables the system to spend much less time on searching for necessary data. Moreover, due to the fact that defragmentation organizes different files, more free space is created. To defragment a hard drive, open My Computer, select a drive by right-click -> Properties and then select the Tools tab. If your OS is Windows 7, the hard drives are organized manually. You can change the settings of the defragmentation by clicking on the Configure schedule button.

Tip #4. Disable indexing

Indexed files have indexes which allow a user to get fast search results and access desired files. If you turn the indexing of your files off, you will still be able to launch a search for files, but the files will not be displayed immediately after launching the scan, which will improve the overall performance of your PC. To disable indexing, follow the instructions:

  1. Open Start menu.
  2. Click on My Computer.
  3. Right-click on the hard drive on which you do not want to have indexed files and choose Properties.
  4. Select the General tab.
  5. Uncheck Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties.
  6. Select OK.

Tip #5. Remove Unnecessary Files and Applications

More hard drive space will be created on your machine if you uninstall and remove unnecessary applications and files, respectively. It is important to check whether a selected program has an additional un-installation app that removes all files related to the program. If the program does not have such an application, use the Add/Remove Programs function in Windows Control Panel (Windows XP) or the Programs and Features option present on Windows Vista and 7.

Tip #6. Empty Windows Recycle Bin

Emptying your Recycle Bin is very advantageous to the computer’s performance, because, after the removal of unnecessary files, a lot of space is freed up on the computer, which, in return, will boost the PC’s functioning. To remove all files from the Recycle Bin, right-click on its icon and select Empty Recycle Bin.

Tip #7. Eliminate malware

Use an update and reliable antivirus or antimalware software like Spyhunter to ensure that your system is protected against various threats, which can be easily caught on the Internet if the system is not protected. Any spyware or malware on the computer typically decreases its performance noticeably; hence, if you notice significant changes in the way your PC operates, scan the system with a legitimate application to check for potential infections.

Tip #8. Fix Computer Registry

The best way to fix computer Registry is to use Registry cleaners Software.  These programs are especially useful for removing and optimizing computer registry and other windows settings.
Our suggestion is to use RegHunter registry Cleaner. This is a tool that gives users an easy-to-use interface , repair errors and optimize the Windows registry for optimal performance. It includes several helpful integrated tools to cleanup your computer. These include a startup cleaner, disk defragmenter, junk/temp file cleaner, and a wide variety of system optimizers.
