What is GVU Virus?

Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (Federal Office for Information Security) is a government agency in Germany that manages communication security. GVU Virus is a malicious ransomware infection that pretends to be an official representative of this agency. In other words - GVU Virus slaps a threatening security notification all over your screen, saying that your computer has been locked due to illegal activity. Part of the message in German sounds like this:

Ihr Computer wurden gesperrt

Ihr Computer wurde durch das System der automatischen Informationskontrolle gesperrt

Warum?
Die Ursache dafür kann wie folgt sein:
1. Ihr Computer wurde zur Betrachtung von verbotenen Webseiten benutzt
2. Ihr Computer wurde zur Betrachtung von Webseiten benutzt, die Elemente der Kinderpornographie enthalten

Basically, GVU Virus says that your computer has been locked due to illegal Internet activity. It says you were watching videos that contain child pornography, or that you have pirated media on your hard drive for which you might face various criminal charges. Naturally, GVU Virus offers you a way out as well - it says that as long as you pay 100 Euro, your computer will be unlocked and you will avoid being charged with the alleged "crimes". Step by Step GVU Virus Removal Instructions

Restart your computer and press F8 before the system loads.
Use arrow keys to navigate through System boot menu and select Safe Mode with Networking. Press Enter.
When the system loads, access the Internet and download SpyHunter.
Install SpyHunter and remove GVU Virus while still in Safe Mode with Networking.

If you have Windows XP:

Follow the steps above from 1 to 3.
Open Start menu and click on RUN.
Type "msconfig" into the box and press Enter.
System Configuration menu loads. Click Startup tab and uncheck all the programs on the list. To save changes, press OK.
Exit the menu and restart your computer in Normal mode.
