What is Funfeedr?
If Mozilla Firefox is your default browser, you might be affected by the Funfeedr adware extension sooner or later. This application is promoted as a useful Firefox that can improve your browser’s functionality and enhance your web browsing experience, but there is no proof that the application does that. In fact, this extension may expose you to unreliable third-party content, and that would eventually lead to various computer security problems. Thus, before any of that happens, you have to remove Funfeedr from your browser and then make sure you never install similar applications again. If you are not sure whether your computer is absolutely safe, get yourself a licensed antispyware tool and run a full system scan with it.
Where does Funfeedr come from?
Funfeedr is very far from being a genuine computer infection because you can add this extension to your browser from its official website via funfeedr.com. Once again, this extension works only on Mozilla Firefox, while if you access the site via other browsers and click the Add to Browser button, you will only end up downloading an .xpi file (that is a Mozilla Firefox extension file).
On the other hand, we cannot rule out the possibility that Funfeedr also gets distributed via third-party websites. If that is really the case, then it means that this extension may come bundled with other freeware applications you neither need nor want. Consequently, browsing the web requires caution and attention, especially if you often access unfamiliar websites.
What does Funfeedr do?
The main promotional lines at the official website say that with Funfeedr you can “start enjoying the hottest content of the web” today. With this extension added to your browser, you will have a “small button on the bottom right corner of your browser” and this button gives you an “easy access to fun.” Basically, Funfeedr is supposed to provide you with the latest information on entertainment and other topics of interest.
However, during our tests we have found that this extension does not add the promised button at the bottom of your browser as well. Rather than that, the application may collect information on what websites you visit, and an extract from its EULA even says that by using the Funfeedr services, “you approve our sharing or transferring of information, including Personal Information, internally, within our group of companies.”
It does not mean that Funfeedr leaks your personal information to cyber criminals, but no one knows how this information could be handled by third-party companies. You may continue using this extension at your own risk, but if Funfeedr appeared on your browser out of nowhere, it is strongly recommended that you remove it.
How do I remove Funfeedr?
Removing Funfeedr is very easy. You simply need to delete this extension via Mozilla Firefox settings. Nevertheless, afterwards you should check for other potential threats using a legitimate antispyware program.
Investing in a computer security tool of your choice is always a good idea, especially considering that these days potential infections are hiding behind every corner.
