What does WebProtect virus do?

The most common feature of any adware application is a browser flooded with numerous adverts. While you browse the web, you are presented with numerous commercial advertisements whether you like it or not. And this annoying activity will continue unless you remove WebProtect virus from your system entirely.

The only slightly different thing about WebProtect virus is that it does not install extensions to any of the browsers. But all the popular browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) will be displaying adverts. What WebProtect virus does is that it creates additional processes named PCProtect.exe and postcollect.exe. These processes can be seen using the Task Manager. These particular processes are the reason you are presented with pop-up ads. Unfortunately, you cannot kill them easily via Task Manager. In order to kill them, you will have to remove WebProtect virus entirely.

Since WebProtect virus is capable of connecting to the Internet without permission, these processes could also act as adware updater. Meaning that as long as it has access to the internet WebProtect virus could be updated or could even restore itself after removal.

Where does WebProtect virus come from?

Since WebProtect virus does not have an official website that would host a direct download link, it is safe to assume that this adware application is mostly distributed via bundled software. In most cases, dubious installers are filled with questionable software and WebProtect virus could be one of them. Often bundled installers are available for download at third-party hosting websites. Avoiding these websites is a great way to prevent unwanted applications infiltrating your operating system. Furthermore, it is advised to implement a reliable malware detection and removal tool as it can identify and remove various virtual threats instantly, dubious installers included.

    • Hi Leslie,

Could you maybe provide me with a screenshot of how does these boxes look like? Is there any way to decline them? Also it would be great if you could inform about the Windows you are using.

    • Hi Michael,

That's the real problem with these adware applications, they tend to be quite resistant to removal. If the manual WebProtect uninstall fails, I suggest you downloading a scanner presented in our page. It will detect the location of the infection and you will be able to remove it yourself.

      Have a great day.
