What is USB Locker?
USB Locker is a strange application that our research team at Anti-Spyware-101.com recognizes as a potentially unwanted program, o PUP. According to our research, an official website that would represent this program does not exist, which is a bad sign. Legitimate and authentic programs usually rely on their official websites for representation. Because the PUP is not represented, we cannot review the privacy policies and other legal information associated with it. Even illegal, malicious programs might have misleading sites representing them, and so the inexistence of a representative site is truly worrying. On top of that, this poses a serious question regarding the distribution of the program. We have tested this PUP in our internal lab, and we can answer all of your questions regarding it. The most important of these questions, of course, is how to remove USB Locker, and we talk about this in the report as well. If you want to discuss further anything mentioned in this report, you can start a discussion in the comments area below.
How does USB Locker work?
At first sight, USB Locker does not look dangerous or malicious. The interface if this program is likely to pop up on your screen when you inject flash drives, and it should help you manage them. For example, the “Access Mode” menu is meant to help you select whether you want to read and write, read only, or disable drives. This program should even help you set up passwords for your flash drives. Of course, you have to be careful when using this program because it is completely unpredictable. For all you know, it could transfer the data it reads on your flash drives to unreliable parties.
The suspicious USB Locker is also known by the names usblock and USB_Locker, and you will encounter all of these names using the same tool. For example, “usblock” is the uninstaller name that you will find in the Control Panel. According to our tests, this potentially unwanted program is likely to be spread by malicious installers that might bundle it together with malware. On top of that, the program itself could be used to introduce you to additional threats. Once installed, it could also be used to track and share information about you, including your browsing history and interaction with software. Obviously, this is risky business, which is exactly why this PUP was brought to our attention and why we are analyzing it.
If you are ready to erase USB Locker from your operating system, scan your PC first. If malware was downloaded onto your computer along with this PUP, you definitely do not want to overlook it. All you need to do is employ a trusted malware scanner, and it will let you know if dangerous threats have slithered in. Of course, if they have, you need to take action as soon as possible. If you are erasing malware manually, eliminate the most dangerous threats first. Regardless of all this, you must not forget about the suspicious PUP itself because it is too suspicious and unpredictable to trust.
How to delete USB Locker
Our analysis has shown that you can remove USB Locker from your operating system in a very easy manner. If you follow the instructions below, you will have this potentially unwanted program erased in no time. Though leftovers are unlikely to bother you, we advise employing a malware scanner to make sure that you have succeeded. Another reason to use this tool is to check your operating system for leftover infections that might have been installed along with the PUP. We encourage users to take matters into their own hands and learn how to delete malware manually; otherwise, we would not be spending our time providing you with manual removal guides; however, you need to be mindful and cautious.
