What is Syssecure Ads?
You may have been lead to believe that Syssecure Ads is a reliable tool that can help you save money while shopping online, but we have to say that you have been deceived, and you should remove this application as soon as the opportunity arises. It is a mere adware-type application that is set to show you intrusive commercial advertisements over which you have no control. According to our malware analysts, this program can put your computer’s security at risk because there is no way of telling whether its promoted content is safe.
How does Syssecure Ads work?
We have learned that, in most cases, this application is set to enter your computer using clandestine means and when it does, it drops its files in either in C:\Program Files (x86) if you use a 64-bit version of Windows or C:\Program Files if you use the 32-bit version. Our malware analysts say that its main folder should be named Hahomedia. However, that may not always be the case. Furthermore, this adware consists of two executables that run in the background. These executables should be named Injector.exe and InjectorServiceProject.exe, but the names can vary. Unfortunately, the developers made it harder for inexperienced users to get rid of this adware, because they have eliminated the uninstaller that should be present in Control Panel.
Researchers have found that, currently, this adware presents ads such as http://newupdatesneeded{.com}/lp/87/4/free/java and http://survey.com-offer.biz/fb/index.php?keyword={ebay.com}#mcpopup, but they present them in the form of banners, coupons, pop-ups, and so on. Therefore, they are appealing with eye-catching promotional slogans. These particular ads are supposed to be legitimate, but some of them may be of malicious nature and get your computer infected with malware, such as more adware, browser hijackers, spyware, and so on.
Speaking of spyware, you are probably not aware that this application can collect information about you. Indeed, in order to present more relevant advertising, Syssecure Ads may collect information that includes, but is not limited to browsing and search history, approximate geographical location, ISP, and IP address. All this information is not personally identifiable. However, online advertisers can put it to “good use” and present you with behavioral advertisements. However, since the ads may be of unreliable nature, there is no need to give advertisers information because they will use for their selfish gain.
Where does Syssecure Ads come from?
Research has shown that this adware is a service provided by HahoMedia, which is a company/adware. This adware developer has a website at HahoMedia.com and from what we have learned, we can only say that it is an unreliable company that is in the web monetization business. This company has been silent close to two years, but it appears that it is making a comeback with the release of Syssecure Ads and we are positive that we will see more releases from this developer.
This company uses software bundling as a means to distribute this new adware which leads us to believe that it will distribute its future releases using the same methods. For now, we do not know the exact program names that it comes bundled with, but we suspect that it should come with software that is not well known, possibly even potentially unwanted programs. From what we have found, Syssecure Ads is buried deep in the installer, and you have to select custom or advanced installation settings to remove it from the setup, and we very much encourage doing so.
How to remove Syssecure Ads
Since this program’s developers chose not to include this program with an uninstaller, the only option you have is to delete it manually from the folder where it is located. However, before you do that, you must terminate the processes of Injector.exe and InjectorServiceProject.exe because the OS will not let you remove a running process. So you will have to go to the Task Manager and end the tasks and only then delete the executable files. Please follow the instructions below for a step-by-step explanation.
Terminate this adware’s processes
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Processes.
- Locate Injector.exe and InjectorServiceProject.exe (names may be random.)
- Right-click on them and click End Process.
- Close Task Manager.
Delete this adware’s files
- Press Windows+E keys.
- In the Explorer window’s address bar enter the following path.
- C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files
- Locate HahoMedia or Syssecure (but the name may be random.)
- Right-click on it and click Delete.
