What is Browseextended?
Browseextended is a rather vague and useless program you should not keep on your computer. Although its name may suggest that it will extend your browsing experience and it even claims that you will “find enhanced content” by using this application, according to our malware researchers at anti-spyware-101.com, this is just another annoying adware program. Many users still do not seem to understand the underlying risks when it comes to ad-supported programs and third-party advertising. Unfortunately, these advertisements may be potentially unreliable and cause virtual security issues. Since it is quite likely that this threat has entered your computer along with other malware infections, we believe that there is no time to waste if you want to save your PC from the exposure to harmful content and even cyber criminals. We suggest that you should remove Browseextended as soon as possible. Let us tell you now in more detail what we have found out about this adware and how you can solve this security issue.
Where does Browseextended come from?
We can surely tell you that this adware does not come from its own promotional page, browseextending.com, which is, by the way, a rather simple and good-for-nothing webpage. By the look, you would think that a 6 year-old kid designed it in a rush. There is no useful information about this application; only a one-liner promotional text. And, of course, a “Start now!” button that simply redirects you to a page that explains what you should do to allow the installation to start. There is a link on this page for you to click in case the automatic download does not start. Obviously, it does not start, and if you click on this link, you will find yourself on a new tab page with the main page of this “website.” This explains a lot about this worthless application; mostly about its reliability.
So how is it possible then it shows up on more and more computers? This adware uses the same distribution method as most of its peers: software bundling. This seems to be a very successful way to deliver a whole package of malicious software installers as well as potentially unwanted programs. The reason behind it is that these malicious bundles are spread through questionable file-sharing and other frequently visited suspicious websites, including pornographic, dating, freeware, and torrent sites. These pages are filled with unreliable third-party advertisements (banners and pop-ups), which could be risky to click on. However, these ads can be rather misleading, and you may think that you click on a download button, for example, but, instead of downloading your target software or movie, you will end up with a package filled with malware infections. Since this is the most probable way for this adware to show up on your computer, we advise you to run a system malware scan in order to identify all other potential threats. But before you do so, you should delete Browseextended.
How does Browseextended work?
Our researchers have found that this program acts very similarly to those adware applications that come from the infamous SuperWeb family. This adware seems to be created by a company called Ulimit; at least that is what we learn when we read the EULA or Privacy Policy. What we also learn from these legal documents is that this program may collect information about you and that could be shared with third parties. This is quite a risky thing when you know that these third parties are never reviewed or controlled by the creators of such adware applications. This can easily mean that cyber criminals can get hold of your information and they can send customized ads onto your screen. These targeted ads can be dangerous to click on since you may be taken to malicious websites. Landing on pages run by criminals never end well for users. You may infect your computer with more dangerous malware programs, such as Trojans, but you may also be tricked into disclosing your personal details. Therefore, we believe that your virtual world will be a lot safer if you remove Browseextended right now.
How can I delete Browseextended?
We hope that it is clear now why we think that you are better off without this annoying adware. So most probably you will be glad to find out that it is quite easy to end this threat. As a matter of fact, this application has a working uninstaller that should not leave any leftovers behind. Please use our instructions below if you are unfamiliar with uninstalling an application. We have also included a guide for more advanced users who would like to manually clean their PC from this infection. Remember that it is important to keep all your applications (operating system, browsers, etc.) and drivers (Adobe Flash) updated because that can help you protect your system from cyber criminals and their exploitations of security holes through the old bugs. Also, try to stay away from shady file-sharing sites and third-party advertisements to be on the safe side.
